I and a couple of other Internet celebrities committed a music video supporting net neutrality. Check it out at We Are the Web.

The telcos want to reserve a portion of their own network's bandwidth so they can deliver television programs over their network in order to compete with the cable providers who already provide VOIP, Internet access, and television programming over their networks.
They aren't talking about limiting or denying access to any web sites. you'll still be able to visit any sites you want to.
They are however talking about charging sites (like Google and Microsoft) a fee to prioritize their packets over their networks so that the site's content is delivered with less latency. If the telcos do reserve a portion of their networks to deliver television to their customers a la the cable companies, then available bandwith will be reduced and will therefore be more valuable. Paying the telcos so that people can access your content more quickly would probably be better for your business.
It's not like you won't be able to get to a site that doesn't pay. Their content will be delivered to you as quickly as the content of all the other sites that don't pay for prioritization.
Google, Microsoft, and the other big internet companies are complaining because for years it's been one big free ride on the telco's networks and they're used to it. Now the telco's desire to realize more profit from their own networks threatens to reduce the profits of the big internet companies so naturally they're up in arms over it. They're hiding their fear of reduced profits behind net neutrality.
My only real concern is how this reduction in bandwidth will effect on-line gaming.

The kind of control they want would easily give them the ability to shut down sites they don't like.

As quickly - or as slowly...

This is what the telcos want you to believe, but it's just flat not true. Google pays big bucks for their fat pipes, and so do Microsoft, Amazon, and so on.
There are peering arrangements - with monetary costs - in place between backbone providers. Those arrangements were made specifically to provide for passing along revenue from big customers to the backbone providers that provide the bandwidth. The telcos are flat out lying when they say they don't see money from the Googles of the world.where to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online Jay Maynard, the Tron Guy |

You know what? I did some more reading on this and you may be right.
This really is some potentially evil stuff going down. Maybe not actually evil, but definitely potentially evil. I'm still not completely sure though, because it's all so hypothetical.
I'm not usually a proponent of big government or more government, so I'd think I'd be happy with a law that said I have the right to go where I want to on the internet without fear of being redirected, intentionally delayed, or otherwise prevented from reaching my intended destination. Other than that, I think the market should be allowed to shape itself.on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill onlineabortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Hey - cool video!
I only knew TRON Guy and the "2 Chinese students" though. I have no clue who the others were, but they were certainly colorful characters.
I think the video may have worked better if more recognizable internet stars were present (I mean more as in quantity, covering a broader range of internet pop-culture). But that may not have been possible for whatever reason. Even so, the video was fun, well produced, and the tune catchy.
As for the content and this threat of potential loss of internet freedom, I'm watching that, but not very closely.
I understand that laws may allow for things that would be very restrictive to end users and I certainly would NOT want that, personally. At the same time, just because something is allowed does not mean it will in fact take place. Just because someone is authorized to use a gun, does not mean they will fire it. But that may be a poor analogy.
I'm not worried about the loss of internet freedom just yet. But that may be because I am somewhat naive on this.
I'm all for keeping the web free - 100% for that! I just hate to think we have to use politicians and make more laws to keep it that way. More laws isn't always a good thing. I'd rather see people put pressure on the companies who seek to control the internet and twist their arms not to do so. I think that would be a better route to take. What are these companies without customers?
I'm just thinking out loud here. Like I said, I am somewhat naive on this. Internet freedom is a good thing - a VERY good thing.

Great video . . . I only recognized you and Peter Pan, though.
I've heard rumblings about the ISPs wanting to exert control over your connection, and charge extra for certain services. Very scary stuff.
I hope that there will be enough momentum and outcry from the public, and that the ISPs will back off because of it.

I was just looking around, and wondered, if my tax dollars go to guys being lobbied, by the same slime as the rest of the world (for how long?), what good is internet 2, when the plan is to pay for 1 too? or maybe 4. The telecomms raised our bills to pay these guys to listen, a long time ago, yeh, the one headquartered in D.C.
nice video Tronguy!

You know what is really great about this music video other than our TronGuy being in it? It's the message and the point of that message that still rings in my head.
I might be a man of simple humor but this isn't silly, but lite hearted. And that's a good thing.
I would love to broadcast this on other sites... if I knew how.
Never mind that right now... I'm going to watch it again... I like it..
