Argh! I got a bit scared then when I checked the I/O Tower, I wasn't expecting this thread... thanks for the kind words, people!
Well Sketch, Dave, you asked for it. And you're going to regret it, too!
Don't bother reading this if you're in a rush...
Err, let me see... I filmed myself on a greenscreen, but unfortunately my only decent lamp blew when I was setting up lighting, so I had to rely on my room lights and the sun outside, hence the jitteriness of the chroma key.
Then, I imported the soundtrack into a sound editty program, and recorded the Giant Face's lines in the gaps I left when I filmed myself. Then I booted up my Giant Face model (which isn't necessarily the MCP, see bottom of this post), and by playing the lines frame by frame, I synced his face to his lines, and rendered them.
After that, I processed the Giant Face's lines (thanks to Fretnoize's advice in
this thread), exported the whole soundtrack, and exported the soundtrack and the Giant Face clips into a movie program. I then assembled the background clip together, first with the blue city thing, then the little cylinder thing, then the Giant Face, then the cylinder again and the city again, and matched the Giant Face movie clips up to his lines. I exported this clip with the soundtrack and left it for a moment.
Then, in the movie program again (I'm sure other video editing guys out there like Todd know what all this is like...), I imported the original clip of me on the greenscreen, and painted green over the edges of the clip that the greenscreen didn't extend to (it was a small greenscreen, about 1m width x 2m length), and exported it, but soundless this time.
Then, in another movie program, I imported both clips, and spent the next 30mins - 1hr trying to get the right chromakey settings to minimize spill and all those annoying little blips and blops that you can still see all over the place.
For the power cycles bit, I just keyed out a bit of my hair, added a cycling coloured blur to the edges of the clip, and faded the effects on and off. And I suppose that's pretty much it...
I think making crazy movies is all I do with my spare time... although it'll take me a long while to get anywhere near Todd's standard...
Fun fact: What I bleep out is actually me saying 'FACE!', which is just a word me and my brother shout at each other when we can't think of anything to say.
Fun fact 2: This movie was a test for the TRON spoof me and some friends intend to make. The 'Giant Face' is going to be known as the CARDIGANN in the spoof (I forget what that stands for) - the equivalent of the MCP, except in the real world he's a sentient car. One of my friends (joined the Sector as Evil_Tom_Gu), told me to upload it here, and after some persuading, I did.
Well, thanks again for what you've said everyone, it really is appreciated!
