Is Snake even a purely Nintendo character? For all I know, he could be owned by sony or microsoft. Only a game that's only on the GC/N64/SNES/GBA/GBC/GB/NES/all of the above. I don't think Snake was on any consoles alone. However, they should put Ashley from Warioware in. And maybe 9-volt and 18-volt. Um. Shadow User... wow. That's really bad information you've got there.
Solid Snake was created by Hideo Kojima who works for Konami company. The first two games: Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 were created for MSX (Japanese computer)... and Metal Gear was ported to NES (Hideo didn't have any part in this port)...
Then Metal Gear Solid series came about, MGS showed up on PSX. MGS2 and MGS3 debuted on PS2. MGS4 will be appearing on PS3.
But wait! Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel (sidestory) was on Gameboy Color. Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes is a remake of MGS (psx) for the gamecube with improved graphics and MGS2 game play style.
PSP has Metal Gear Acid 1 and 2... and the soon to be coming: Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops.
...so, how the heck is Solid Snake owned by Sony when he is Hideo Kojima's character to begin with? Konami is a "third party company" which makes games for /any/ consoles. Nintendo and Sony is considered "first party"... and I think Rare might qualify as "second party" (because they did Donkey Kong country games for Nintendo and Donkey Kong *is* Nintendo's character.)
So, seriously, if you have any questions about video games characters/companies that you don't understand... please ask me and don't make really bad assumpinations like that, that's really embarrassing. 
Edit-- By the way? MGS. NOTHING LIKE HALO! I don't know where you got the idea. MG/MGS/MGA is all about stealth. You get more points/rewards if you don't kill people in the games. :P (However, boss fights are entirely unavoidable, but in the MGS series, you can choose to kill their stamina instead of their health. The screen shot of Snake staring down Mario and Link made me laugh out loud!!!!
I also loved in the trailer how they show how cool and new Mario and Link look, but Pikachu and Kirby look exactly the same! It's a pretty cute joke!
I always liked the original Metal Gear, but the sequel sucked (granted, Snake's Revenge was a sequel in name only). MGS was fun (the remake on the GC is very pretty), but I hated the second one.
MG3 was okay, but I really didn't get into it. I think the second one jaded me so much that I just didn't care.
But, is MG anything like Halo? Not one bit.
Halo doesn't have sucky blonde-haired characters you have to become in the sequel instead of the badass who is Master Chief!

Pimp-- The best part is that you can play the REAL MG2 which is included with MGS3: Subsistence.
Which is why I just had to have MGS3: Subsistence because I can't pass up the chance of being able to play MG and MG2: Solid Snake.
(Okay, I admit my MG/MGS/MGA collection is nearly as scary as my Tron collection. XP My mom remarked on it the other day, "I never thought you'd be the type to like those games." I just shrugged and laughed.)
Link definitely had the most dramatic change, from cartoony to almost uber realstic which stood out very well. (I almost didn't notice Mario's slight change x_X)

MG and MG2 are totally awesome! Although, I suck at both. I mean I really, really suck at both. On MG, I can just about make it a little past the wolves before a bunch of guards kill me, and on MG2 I can barely make it past the first screen in the game!
But, I love the music in MG sooooo much... so much that I midified the 'outside' music myself and put it on my mobile (which is rarely switched on, and when it is, it's usually just to listen to the various tunes I have on it - MG, MGS, TRON...  )!

Snake in SSB? That does it. I'm going to force my friend (Evil_Tom_Gu on the Sector) to let me play as Snake at his house for hours on end...
