Cool!

But... something tells me that won't be a joke for too many more years.

I can't wait until those things are REAL! The interface between computer and mind, that is! Exciting stuff to me!

Perhaps exciting to you, but damn scary to me. As soon as that technology becomes commercially available and people start having chips implanted in their brains I'm going to be one of the few objectors... cyborgs scare me

Although I very much doubt that technology will be available any time in the near future.

Do not fear technology advancements like this, NoExcuses. Although this particular article was just a joke, this very technology is already in development (has been for years) may likely exist in our lifetime.

I know many people fear technology in terms of when man and machine become seamless, and other similar applications. You are not alone here. I also know that most people's fears about this is unfounded and generally based on sci-fi horror film fears coming to life.

When the first organ transplants were taking place several decades ago - many people said it was "playing God" and thought it was all a bunch of mad-scientist, Frankenstien like things coming to life. The fact is, organ transplant technology has saved many lives and offered new hope to so many people over the years. Perhaps you have a family member or friend who has benefited from it. But remember - when it was new, many people feared it and even tried to stop it by rallying against it. Can you imagine how awful that would have been had they succeeded in stopping it?

There are already humans who have implants in their brains that allow them to control computers, and some basic appliances. This technology is still very experimental, but it is bring hope to those who cannot do things on their own because of injury to their spine. This is just the start - this technology will have great benefits to human kind once it has gone from experimental to every-day use. It will start off by helping those who are sick and in need of some personal help in communicating and simple things you and I take for granted. As the technology grows and evolves, it will help more people in other respects. I believe it will even help out the average guy or gal in so many ways in the future.

I know I have a very poor short-term memory. I can't wait for a technology that allows me to recall anything that I have experienced. I would be able to manage my job and my life so much more efficiently if I never forgot anything (or more accurately put, if I could recall anything I needed, whenever I needed). That is just one of so many things that may come of this kind of technological break-through.

Of course, as technology evolves, some people will fear it. And that is ok. Like the personal computer and the internet today, future technologies will not be for everyone. But just because one does not choose to participate in new technologies, does not mean they should rally to remove this option from those who choose to make use of it.

I'm sorry if I should a little preachy about this. It's just that I am fascinated by new technologies like this and can't wait until I can experience them myself. I only hope that as some of these things become reality, that I am not too hold to enjoy them.

Perhaps you should check out new and wonderful inventions and discoveries on the Science and Discovery channels. They have some incredible and fascinating things to show about what may be in the near future.

And remember - there will always be bad people who use ANY technology for malice and harm toward others. This has existed since the first signs of technology. Heck - remember when the internet first became really popular in the mid 90's? The only thing the news had to say about the internet is that child molesters would now have free reign over EVERYONE's kids. And that your cred card numbers would all get stolen. And that stalkers would have an easier time stalking you. Sure - those all have a little truth to them... but if the internet did not take off as it did, would we even be having this discussion?

And for what it's worth - I've never met or known of anyone who was stalked via the internet. I've only met

Well, I wasn't expecting that sort of a reply! I know the technology will be interesting, I just think it's a little weird and... well, I'm not sure how to put it. I don't know - maybe I'll change my mind if it happens. Maybe I'm just weird order abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill

Sorry about all that. I know it probably came out of left-field for you.

I know you were probably just saying something like "hey - that kind of thing is not for me" and there I went with a big "don't fear technology... blah blah blah..."

I am fascinated with new and wonderful technologies that will open up the door for so many great and beneficial things in the future. And it seems like every great new advancement in technology is followed by "concerned" people questioning weather or not it is "ethical". That means some people simply fear the change and look for ways to stop the change because it makes them sleep better at night. So they go and ruin it for us all. The whole connection between man and machine has indeed been questioned in terms of whether or not it is "ethical" to do such things. We're on the horizon of great things, and there are already those who work to stop it all because of their own personal fears (or "ethics" if you will).

Anyway - I know you weren't looking for all that from me. I certainly wasn't coming down on your or anything - just trying to share a little insight about the great things to come. I just get passionate about that kind of stuff. Everyone's got their thing I guess.

LOL.

That's a great April Fool's joke.

Since you brought it up, TRT, you already know that I'm skeptical about computer and mind interfacing technologies in general. I won't go into that again, but in summary: programming a computer to read minds is like writing a program to run on 6 billion different operating systems. However, I think that something like this may actually be achievable.

I could conceive of a device that records the electrical impulses in the vision area of your brain (or any sense, really) and triggers those impulses again. Think of it as a VCR for your life. Indeed those problems I mentioned before would actually be a good thing, because there would be no way for anyone to use it to invade your privacy!

Good to see we agree on some things.

Internet goggles?

Hmm - that sounds like fun!

World peace would be nice too - but I doubt we'll see that any time soon. Even if all the world's governments figure out how to get along and play nice - there's still be billions of people sharing the same space on the same planet. And most of them would still not know how to get along. Seems like everyone knows how everyone else should live their life and that causes a lot of problems.

Perhaps if the rest of the world took some lessons from us here at TRON-Sector - it would be more peaceful. We all have different opinions here, and yet we STILL know how to respect each other. Politics is an ugly thing and we don't get in to it here. And we're all very supportive of each other because we actually care about our fellow program's well being.

Yep - the rest of the world could learn a thing or two from us here. abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

I recall the thread I think you're talking about - the one that talks about Sony's patenting of a yet-to-be-developed technology that allows people to interface with a video game via direct connection with the brain (brain beaming or something like that). VERY fascinating stuff to me!

I don't remember everything about it, but I do recall that you didn't seem to keen on the concept. That's cool though. Different strokes.

The device you're speaking of - the ability to records one's experiences and play them back - that is already in develpment. Well, sort of. Something similar, anyway.

I wish I could remember where I read it - it was in the science section of some major news website - perhaps cnn.com or similar. I'm not big on "news" news, but I do enjoy checking out the science advancement articles.

A scientist was working toward a technology that records electrical impulses in his hand. He's been working on this for a while. The idea is if the computer can be trained to recognize the electrical impulses that make a hand move in certain patterns, then after recording the impulses, the computer should be able to play the same electrical pattern back and the hand (of the person wired up) should repeat the exact same movements.

The scientist was using himself as the subject. I found this very fascinating! Of course, the major implications here is maybe to help paralyzed people walk again, etc. But it can go far beyond that and benefit the average Joe too I'm sure.

This article was posted several months ago. I'm sure this scientist has performed the play-back test by now. I wonder if it worked.

I'll have to try and find that article again sometime. I might have archived it on my work PC.

Anyway - this same technology may branch out in to the ability to actually record what people see and hear and store that for future playback - perhaps as a personal memory booster, or built-in video recorder of sorts. Wouldn't it be cool to be able to recall ANYTHING at ANY time? I'd LOVE that!
