I've been hearing about that law. It's too vague so it'll be thrown out. =/
And besides, most of the annoyances tend to come from younger children... ^^; People wouldn't be thrilled with the idea of putting children in jail... so the law really doesn't make sense. =/ Also, what some people find annoying, others don't.
Now, if it was narrowed down to specifically target spammers, stalkers and harrassers... maybe it'd be ok. (I'm not really sure on this one.)
My head just hurts so much from the law.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Nothing can stop someone from posting anonymously, and using proxy servers between him/her and the destination. Good luck trying to trace something back to that person.
And like the article says, who decides what's "annoying"? As we all know, what can annoy one person could be funny to the next.
There's no way that law can be enforced. It will definitely be thrown out.

What? You guys havent read globalism 101 at stanford's website? This is an attempt to show that law is your culture, not your beliefs, or otherwise.
I'll say this.. it looks as if the US of the Americas is setting the internet up to be aligned with the EU's world court. No doubt a move to further entangle modern man into working methodically inside this insubordinate government's legislation.
These dorks just want to come around, marching on peoples property, and make them submit, hey, it's biblical after all! Bring it!

I'm not into conspiricies or anything... But I do believe something is brewing. I don't think this is a result of it but I do believe that within the next ten years we will be seeing things take place that are much more extreme..
.... and I really don't think our electorial goverment will be the ones behind it... If they can not properly cover up a sex scandel, or phone tapping, or whatever... then they aren't very bright to begin with.
I don't ever swing to the left or right (although I do have my own personal views which I keep to myself), so I do watch both sides with the same great criticism....

I can see that maybe that the annoyance law may be for Spam but how far can this actually be taken before you slide down too far on that slippery slope? Because of how vague that law is, if I were in America, I could easily get my sis in trouble when she annoys me online (Of course, not that I want to. She's my sis and younger sis seem to get great pleasure out of annoying their older counterpart anyways.) so if someone took it to that point, we'd have a lot of annoying siblings in jail or something which is just not cool. I mean, I can only see two people going to court, one pointing ever so dramatically to the other and say "THIS PERSON IS ANNOYING ONLINE! THEY POST TOO MANY SMART THINGS AND THAT'S ANNOYING" Other "annoying" person: "But I don't see how that can be annoying. I wasn't out to annoy you with them. I was just posting the solution to world hunger" *Gets sent to jail for being "annoying"* Okay.... maybe not quite that extreme, but you know where I'm going. That law despritally needs to be re-written or at least define what is considered annoying (Ei: Spam). Besides, we have no idea what annoys everyone anyways. And if we followed that law as it was written, then everyone would be in jail because what you might do/say online that isn't annoying to most other people, will be annoying to a few. I mean there are people who annoy me online (While it's not intentional. Right now, my sis and I are annoyed with this one person at some art site who is being a main page (Explicative) who's only clame to fame is that the only thing she draws and colours is char from popular anime to grab attention and quite a few people love her. She even has two fan clubs following her around. The admin of that site doesn't even have one fan club! But yeah, while it's not intetional and I don't think she means to annoy people, she still does!) but I think it's pretty extreme to throw her in jail. But yeah. The law is way too vague and extremist. It's times like these that being Canadian comes in handy and we don't have to worry about that law.

Frankly, I see an upside to this. I just went to a web site that had playstation cover images on it, and was victim of a FULL PAGE ad, that disabled the close window button, started playing a LOUD obnoxious voice over and could only be closed through the task manager.
If the people who designed and sent that to me could do some jail time I would not shed a tear.

Have you ever been to a Porn Site that does that? You click on a link, and the next thing you know there is a voice blaring from your speakers going "Oooh baby, are you looking for hot action?". Try explaining that to your wife!

I suggest going to overseas porn websites, that way they can yell out whatever they want in a foreign language, and you're covered.

Oh yeah, got it all taken care of. Not as embarrasing as the "pop-up" playboy I left on the coffee table once.

I don't think anyone should really get concerned about this "law". I've enjoyed people's humorous takes on things though!
I'm not exactly sure how or why this law was put in to place. There must have been something specific in mind that would make this law useful should whatever those circumstances are take place. But the law seems to read a bit vague (according to the article) and as the writer of the article pointed out, there are potentially very dumb ways this law might be translated.
A couple of things to take in to account:
First, this story was written with the intention of getting people all concerned about something ridiculous, like simply being annoying and ending up in jail for it. That will not happen - at least not in the ways the story spells out. What court in their right mind (or left mind as well) would put someone in jail for the stupid scenarios implied in the story? It ain't gonna happen. People won't stand for it and the politicians won't back it up if it pisses off the voters.
Second, the only time this law would ever realistically be used is when whatever those specific events that lead to it's being drafted came in to play. The law might be used as a warning shot to people who are more than crossing lines with their poor internet practices. The law will not be used to shut down simple "annoying web sites" or anything like that, as in "I'm annoyed that this web site exists" and related things. There is freedom of speech in this country and that ain't going away.
I can be down-right annoying myself - in person or over the inetnet. I do not fear for a single micro cycle going to jail for my behavior. Not at all. Because I am not "annoying" in malicious or harmful ways that this law was intended to shut down, nor are most "annoying" people.
If you want to be afraid of the "interpretations" that might be made of this law - go right ahead. Do with your time as you wish. As for me, I've got better things to do with my time than worry about vaguely written laws that some journalists use to spin a little fear in to their readers with.
Life is short. Relax and ENJOY it.

EDIT: Tori, I wasn't intentionally taking this as an accusation.
I may be wierd to sound concerned about a country that produces bills like NAFTA, DR/CAFTA, and thus we will follow CODEX rules (UN), in a matter of time, whom supports far more draconian laws than Americans can handle. I'm sure you'd find me normal compared to your senator.
Kamui Wrote:

CODEX law is encforced in Canada, and CODEX gets sued for ignorant laws, just like the US government. it's just a matter of time untill people slowly wake up... But the architecture of CAFTA, is having CODEX law slowly enforced. they're setting us up...
Lucky me, I dont log on anonymously and trash the gov. But I've known that people will have to protect thier right to read forums, this is just a ticking bomb.
