Not Good. A CD-Key is meant to prevent this @#$%!!

on Friday, September, 12, 2003 4:37 AM
OK, so I finally get a game that has a CD-Key (see previous post about CD-Keys in NZ being wrong) and install the game.

I enter the CD key and reboot.

I take the CD out and store it away in the box - just like you should do - to stop a game disc getting damaged, and fire up the game.

Then - OMFG - the thing says "Put CD1 in the CD player"!!

I'm like, "Holy Shit - WTF did I just enter a CD-Key for????"

This is just completely stupid. I now have to risk my game CD every time I play the game. No - I'm not rough with optical discs at all, and I've never ruined one - but enough copy protection is enough.

I'm going to crack this game as soon as someone makes a NO-CD patch for it.

Just some feedback for the Buena Vista people - THIS STINKS!

I play about 8 games regularly, and having to constantly stick a CD in a drawer to play a game is the lamest of the lame.

So tell me, what games do you play that don't require that you put the CD in the drive?

Come on, you scuzzy data, be in there.

No a CD key is ment to prevent copying. Each cd has its own code, and the reason why it asks for your Cd is to make sure the code you put in matches the one on the CD. Its the companys way to put a stop to piracy

The majority of the games I regularly play need the CD in the drive to play. What's the big deal?

I always have a stack of "currently playing" CDs on my desk, for this reason.

I hesitate to say that you are being unreasonable, but it seems like you are grasping at straws for things to complain about.

Agreed. o_O

It's common practice for games to need cd to play. Mainly because the movies are on that cd as well as other things that weren't installed.

Very few games install *everything*. I don't recall ever having played a game that didn't need a cd.

A CD key supposedly stops games from being copied, which is bullshit, unless its using Half-Lifes Valve's Keys, in which case its safe as houses, because the cd-keys are specific keys used for the net gaming and other things. In every other case however the CD Keys do not present a safe method of stopping the copying of CD's.

Why can you not play your game without the CD? Well this is safety method number two, make sure the discs are needed, so it takes longer for hackers to create a no-cd crack as well as a cd-key generator.

You can copy the CD but it's useless, especially if you want to use Multiplayer. I've heard the ripped release of Tron 2.0 is only good for single play use. People who really want to play this awesome game will spend the buxx, besides, Buena Vista spent some hard earned time and hours on this project!

M0b1u5:

With all due respect, the CD key is NOT meant to allow you to play the game without the CD. The key is part of BVI's overall copy-suppression scheme.

I apologize for the inconvenience but it is a necessary evil.

Ummm...quite frankly I don't give a rat's @ss about having to have the cd in the drive while playing. I myself have a stack of "currently playing" cd's on my desk here. However, I AM looking for a no cd crack. I am having some performance issues with the game and a while back someone responded to my topic with the same problem, because they were running the cd with a dvd rom (which I am). They switched over to their other cd rom and it was fine. Unfortunately, I ONLY have a DVD rom. So I would like a no cd crack just to see if this helps my problem. Rest assured I bought the game the day it came out and will not hesitate to blow my wad on anything Tron related lol.where to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online

For many games their are ways to play the game without the cd. Like has been said above a dozen times this isint the function of the key. The copy protection varies from game to game. Its difficult to answer this kind of question, from a legal and moral standpoint. But yes their is a way, yes you can do it yourself, and no i wont post instructions. I kind of like playing games without having to dig out cds, they almost always face some horrible death.on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill onlineabortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

I haven't played any game in the last 2 years that hasn't required the CD in addition to a code key to play. I fail to understand how one could be so shocked at something which I thought was standard practice by now.

Plus, dude, how can you get THAT upset over something that takes 20 seconds. If changing CDs is the most annoying thing in your life, you should consider yourself most lucky.

Any game nowdays needs the cd to play. What is your problem?

If you are that fired up about keeping the disc dafe, then remember, PER THE LAW, you are entitled to have a backup of any software you purchase, so burn a backup and use that instead

There are ways around such things. Certain software will make a foolproof burn and if not, there are ways to bypass the cd check.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online
