Prayer from "The Treasure of Sierra Madre"?

In the novel "Tron" 1982, it says: "He invoked a prayer drawn from «The Treasure of Sierra Madre»: «Bodges? We don’ need no steenkin’ bodges!»" (Badges? We don't need no stinking badges!)
Question: Why is it called "prayer"? After all, prayer is an appeal to God.
