Mash Set

on Tuesday, May, 15, 2012 9:20 PM
Im big into plastic model, done 100's of star wars and star trek models. Im now thinking about doing a mash kit (combining a bunch of parts from different model kits to create a unique model). Im kinda lost on where I should even start, I want to do a tron theme. Im thinking of using Warp Naceles on a Recognizer?

I've never heard of that method called "mash set" before. I've heard of it called "kitbash." But for using ST nacelles for a Recognizer, which ship are you refering to? The TOS Enterprise? TNG Enterprise? The Abrams' abomination (aka the Macintosh Enterprise with the iBridge featuring the lens flare app)? I personally don't see any of the nacelles from any ST ship that look like they could be used, primarily because of their distinct shapes. It'd be better to just scratchbuild the parts of a Recognizer, as the Recognizers had distinct appearances. But if you feel that the parts are useful, go for it. It's your build.

well, not necessarily the nacelles from any of the Enterprise evolutions. There are tons more star ships with different designs. I was thinking about maybe the nacelles from the Dauntless http://www.starshipmodeler.com/trek/ss_dauntless_WarpNacelles.jpg

I want it to have a very distinct look about it, im perfectly fine with it not looking EXACTLY like a recognizer. The more strange and unique it looks, the better.

And for the landing gear (or feat of the regonizer) i was thinking about sanding down the bottom ends of the nacelles, and cementing them to the feet of this gundam model http://fudoushin.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/img_2643.jpg with the tips of the boots pointing outward if that makes sense.
