I watch it all the time at home on my notebook, but let's face it, for inexplicable reasons, notebooks do not have blue-Rays yet-Apple Computer...WHERE ARE YOU NOW?-...nor hi-def screens. So I am forced to watch it on my lously, low-def notebook screen and only get in a 1080 P watching when I visit my parents. EVERY time I visit them every month.
By to see this movie in normal res is like looking at a crummy sketch left by some kid on the back of a place-mat at Dennys. But to see it in 1080P compares to a beautiful Rembrandt painting viewed firsthand at the Lourve. It is absolutely NOT the same movie, or even half the movie, when you have to lower yourself to watching it on a low-res screen. And let;s be clear, 1080 p may cost, but it blows even 720 OUT of the water by far. I could see clearly every last few out of place hairs on Jeff Bridges' head, and the colors just attacked your eye as they jumped off the screen. And of course Tron is a visually rich but also extremely high-contrast movie in it's look. Plus it was filmed in IMAX, so even when watched on 1080 it'd still show up with all the original razor sharpness and brilliant lines. Even the producers marveled at and praised how much brighter the Blu-Ray was on a 1080p set since the image is projected from the set rather than being bounced off a theater screen, which lowers the sharpness quotient oh so slightly as well as the original intended brightness. Not much way to make that something 3D doesn't do next to regular 2D yet since the 3d glasses are inherently a bit dark.
Things I never caught before when I viewed it in 1080p previously or, of course, on my notebook:
The crowd in the disc arena was so sharp that I could finally see their distinct and various different colors, depending on their affiliation.
I could see the titles on the spines of the books on Flynn's shelf and the art on the Jules Vern book Quorra holds when Sam and her walk past the book shelf.
During the lightcycle battle, when CLU enters that downward spirally formation, I co0uld see the other rider begin his ride upwards through it a lot earlier. He didn't seem to just come out of nowhere as he does in a lower rez viewing.
The reflections of various objects as reflected inthe shiny surfaces of the bikes and smooth surfaces of the light trails revealed more detail than ever before, and all of it painstakingly accurate. Flawless. That probably did more to sell the "they're really there and this exists" sense more than anything else. When Sam recruits his buddy from the recognizer, you can see the accurate reflection of the lines on the level above them on their helmets. And what is that guy's name anyhow? Can anyone read it on the tower as him being the only guy left aside from CLU and Sam?
The sense that the other cycles are still there even if they're not featured in a shot is better since you can see some of them in the background.
Okay that's it, I'll stop there since many of you have 1080 p sets. But of you don't, and you have yet to, find a 1080p set and swell your kids for medical experimentation to get one. Treat it as an altar in front of which you shall kneel and worship this amazing movie in which no detail was overlooked. Aside from that dead guy';s feet sticking inexplicably out from behind that short wall in front of the bar as Castor does his little dance in front of it after snagging Flynn's disc.

Actually, there are notebooks out there that have Blu-Ray drives. The reason it's not a common feature is because a Blu-Ray drive needs about 3GHz of processing power and a GPU capable of displaying HD video to play a Blu-Ray disc at 1080p. You'd also need a longer-lasting battery in order to handle the increased processing power and GPU power intake. The current standard specs for an affordable notebook would not support Blu-Ray discs.
On topic: I'd really like to watch Tron Legacy on a 1080p display someday. Highest resolution I've seen it on is my small 17" 720p display.
TRON 2.0 (PC) name - TRON.dll
I'll play any mode, but I'm best at LC.
PSN - TRON-dll
XBOX Live/Games for Windows Live - TRONdll

Agreed, I'm still noticing things on my 1080p projector.

Actually I'm pretty sure the majority of it was filmed in digital 1080p, with IMAX used for action scenes. Still, I haven't seen even fantastic film transfers such as Dark Knight stand up to digital 1080.

How bright the screen is depends solely on...how bright the screen is. It's not fair to say a front projected image is dimmer than direct emission technologies simply because it is reflected off a screen. It is however fair to say the light received from the screen will be dimmer than the light encountered immediately from the projector, however if you have any love for your retinas, you would tend to choose the former viewing method.

I only caught this on my first 1080p projector viewing, after 2 regular cinema, 2 IMAX and one 720p viewing. I thought I had my saturation up too high and the crowd was starting to block up.

Hmm, didn't notice. Funny, everything seems to fly over my head when Quorra's on screen.

Haven't actually seen this part on 1080, will do so later.

I developed an even more intense appreciation for the raytracing they did in this movie watching 1080p, on rather complex surfaces, in 3D. Simply magnificent.

I got that too.

Take it as an object clipping error, happens all the time in games ^^

I upgraded from plain DVD to BluRay and the only thing I noticed (on my lousy TV) was a dramatic increase in Sound Quality. I'm looking forward to picking up a nice flatsceen TV soon...

One other thing I noted.......the use of water cascading upwards from Flynn's logs in his fireplace was pure genius, one of those things no other movie has done but which TL did. I always was able to easily make that out. This time in 1080P i noticed that there were small motes flying about, mimicking the random flight of so many stray embers, which surrounded the "fire". on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill online

Nice catch, I'll look for that next time.

Plus the "cascading water" fireplace reinforces the idea that, as this is the somewhat "talky" part of the movie, that the Grid is still a place where a little of anything can happen. Plus it beats the three or four short turned-on neon tubes stacked like wood in the fireplace which we saw in the concept test. Of course they didn't do anything aside from just sit there lit up, but like the rest of the movie itself, it took evn what we saw in the concept test to an even greater height design-wise. Plus the concept test was a cool thing in itself.
