The Grid world map

on Sunday, October, 23, 2011 7:40 PM
This one: http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/6950/gridworldmap.jpg

when I saw the dot matrix version of this on the wall at Kevin's secret lab, I didn't give it a lot of thought sincfe there was nothing to indicate it was a graphical representation of the "physical" layout of the grid in the computer, a sort of map. After all there isn't much written on it aside from some indecipherable nonsense.

Then I see this image, which is cool, only one thing about it: the image is too small to see anything really or read what a lot of the text on it is. Is there a bigger version of it?

Obviously I was wrong about the Outlands since I assumed they, like a digital plane, went on forever. I didn't know until now that the Tron UNiverse had any real shape at all, but apparently it's elongated for the most part.

Hey Moses, yeah I've searched high and low for a larger version of it, but I can't find anything larger than that one. I seem to have this vague memory that it may have been part of a pull-out poster with a magazine, maybe Popular Mechanics or something, but I could be totally wrong on that. I've never come across another version of it, other than this one, which is included with the Disney Second Screen app. That's why I posted on here.

As far as the "layout" of the Grid, I was like you and didn't think much of the one on the wall in his lab at first. But looking at screen shots, you can see that he noted the End of Line club as "EOL" right in the center of TRON City. Other than that, most of it didn't make much sense. Although, Kevin did seem to run the "TRON" program a good bit, almost as a debugging program, it seemed.

If I look pretty closely at the TR2N Grid map, I can make out a few of the numbered labels:

1. Safe House
2. Subterranean Bunker
3. ???
4. Light Freeway ( ? )
5. Lightcycle Grid and Track
6. End Of The Line Club
7. Energy Beam Cargo Transport
8. ??? Complex Disc? Battle? Coliseum
9. Holding Area Cargo Loading Complex
10. ??? Light Jet Crew ( ? )
11. Military ??? Vessel ( ? )
12. Portal ???

That's about all I can make out, and some of those may be wrong. Maybe someone else can figure out the missing pieces.

So I guess, as far as a physical layout is concerned, the Grid is kind of like a long "island" in the Sea of Simulation. Man, I really wish we could find a High-rez copy of that map!

Does that mean there are more "islands"?

What happens, I wonder, when a program travels to and then tries to go beyond The Void. Do they derezz, or fall into an abyss of some kind? Well, I guess there's only one kind of abyss....the dark and bottomless kind. abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Well.. "The Grid" was clearly written on the dot matrix print out... From that I assumed that it actually was a map of the grid.

But I'm a geographer and I see maps everywhere.

Is the Void beyond the Sea of Simulation?

Hey Vapor, I'm a fellow geographer! Well, I have a degree in geography and I do GIS work! So I guess I should have seen the map of the Grid immediately too! But as with most things in my life, it took me a few seconds...LOL!

I'm not sure of the specifics, but I have a feeling that the area labeled the "Void" on that concept map was a preliminary name for what would later be referred to as the "Sea of Simulation".

A quote from this early article and interview would suggest they are one and the same:

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/44298

"The world of Tron is one big city and the more you get out of the city center you lose definition and symmetry, eventually falling off into the Sea of Simulation according to the production designer, Darren Gilford."

Ha! Yes.. it does pay much better than Anthropology (which was my first degree)
I wonder if anyone has made a shapefile or geodatabase of the grid...?

Speaking of seeing maps everywhere... my daughter (who likes maps too) saw a globe piggy bank at target today. It peaked my interest until I recognized that was a mercator projection map decal glued to a sphere. It has to be one of the worst attempts at a globe I've ever seen....

I have heard that the random bits of code in the Sea of simulation collect to form landmass. Does this help? I think that was a fact from that Light Cycle simulation on the non-working Disney Tron site.
