They purposely added noise to the soundtrack...

on Wednesday, August, 03, 2011 7:41 PM
and this is really a genius move. Here's why: Many artists going back to when CDs were first emerging HATED the sound of CD but none the less had to make albums on CD, which is a background-noiseless medium. Tapes and records used to have inherent background hiss, a noise, to them. Artists like Brian Eno and, I would assume, others, made no secret of their hatred of the no-noise, jagged sound of CDs, so they openly added background noise to the tracks on their CDs as a "screw you" to the CD format.

If you listen to The Game has changed and Castor at high enough volume, you'll clearly hear noise behind the music, like tape hiss. I think this is true of all the tracks. It does not interfere with the exactness or fidelity of the music, but I am SURE it was added to the music on purpose since CDs were barely invented at the time. The original soundtrack was analog, which surely would have included background hiss. Just as the lens flare in TL was rasterized as it would appear on a cathode ray tube display with vertical lines (the only kind of screen existent in the pre-plasma-screen eighties if you young 'uns can believe that) it would make sense that background hiss was added to the tracks on TLs soundtrack deliberately!!

What a GENIUS move! You would have to be alive during the eighties to pick up on the "why" of this as well as to even hear it. When it comes to TL, G-d, as they say, as well as all of the genius details that went into TL, is in the details.

I think I may have made an original discovery here!

And I can't think why they would, except for the sake of nostalgia. If you want your music to come across sounding like quality, why would you be pissed that background noise was eliminated? Most people want complete silence when recording so there ISN'T background noise. If somebody walked into the studio talking while you were recording, you wouldn't say "hey dude, can you keep talking? You're screwing up my stuff."abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

I also noticed that some of the tracks have a "breathing sound". I find that I can't really hear this when listening with cheap headphones but on my home theater setup (http://www.tron-sector.com/forums/default.aspx?a=top&id=426976) it is very easily audible. I don't remember which specific track it is on but I think it could be one of the first ones. Anybody else pick this up?

I thought that was due to recording an orchestra playing, and that sound was all the musicians taking a breath at the same time. I think it's interesting that they didn't try to mask that out.order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill

You make an excellent point. It might have been the orchestra. I've never heard that left in a recording (other than classical pieces or live recordings). You have to believe that it was intentional as such a heavily "processed" soundtrack is carefully built up of multiple audio recordings. Either way it is one of my favorite soundtracks of all time.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

No, it's not the orchestra. Believe me, I know what hiss sounds like and this is intentionally added background tape-like hiss. It can be heard on almost every track I've listened to that closely so far, including some like Castor, which HAS no orchestration or non-electronic synthesized sounds.

One more thing.....if you've ever watched The Matrix with a good pair of headphones on, you'll note that when they're in The Matrix, you can hear a faint, steady rumbling in the background. That's alluding to the fact that when they're in the Matrix, they're in a machine, a manufactured, artificial (albeit digital) world.

using small washes of white noise is fairly common in dance music, as is compressing some sounds to the extent they sounding like breathing.

also with the orchestra you get room tone, keeping much of the "imperfections" of the live instruments is also what gives us the "human" quality that the soundtrack to both films meld so well.

what i want to know is why there's pads in the 5.1 version of the end titles, but not on the cd?

I know when I'm working on my song projects I intentionally compress any saxophone or clarinet or other reed instruments in the mix to get that noise below it. I like having a little 'hiss', because it gives the recording a more full sound.abortion pills online abortion questions cytotec abortion

Personally I really hate hissing and tape noise. I want to hear the music as if I'm actually there when it's being played, not the imperfections of the mediums that they were/are recorded to. It especially bothers me if it's artificially added.

Kind of ironic since nearly all the music I listen to is from the 70's when analog was king.

And sometimes you can hear orchestra breaths, though they're really hard to notice with the exception of Finale when they're very clear.

Artists like Brian Eno and, I would assume, others, made no secret of their hatred of the no-noise, jagged sound of CDs, so they openly added background noise to the tracks on their CDs as a "screw you" to the CD format.

That surprises me because his most recent releases have been completely hiss free.
