I recently attended an event celebrating the release of the original 1982 TRON movie and its 2010 sequel TRON: LEGACY on DVD and Blu-ray at a Best Buy location in West Hollywood, California -- part of my ongoing LA Times coverage of the TRON saga -- and chatted with TRON director Steven Lisberger, TRON: LEGACY director Joseph Kosinski, and visual effects supervisor Eric Barba (who took home an Oscar for his work on the David Fincher drama “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button“).
We discussed many things, including: the vibrancy of viewing the movies on Blu-Ray, the new, interactive "second screen" function which allows access to a vast archive of LEGACY's behind the scenes material, new enhancements and changes to TRON: LEGACY for its home video release, the unique challenges of bringing CLU "to life", their favorite scenes -- and deleted scenes and concepts from the LEGACY movie, TRON "easter-eggs", and the future of the TRON Saga!

Wonderful article! I'm happy they've become a bit more conscious to get Tron 3 right and properly. It will have to be a much longer film than Legacy to pace out the details. They have to, otherwise a short movie would not do justice. The last thing they would want to do is cater to the ADHD crowd (no offense to those who are) by 'speeding' up the story like a video game.
They have to move the old Grid to the ENCOM server to expand on that universe because Quorra will be an anomaly program there, probably to be corrupted by Dillinger Jr. He will use her to show him where she's from and that's how I think they'll lead the story this way.

JK: We had this scene where Sam (Garrett Hedlund) caught Quorra (Olivia Wilde) undressing in her bedroom, which didn’t make it into the film. I noticed there’s a little concept art from that scene on the “second screen,” which I thought was funny.

too bad. i dont have an ipad, and the bly-ray release version release in HK seems dont have the magic code contained...
i can only download one unzipped by BinaryZero, but i still cant find it. Is that scene a photo, gif or video?

Actually -- the second screen function doesn't work on an iphone -- only on IPads and Mac laptops -- the app comes from the Mac online app store and you get the unlock code for it with the Blu-Ray case.
It's definitely wicked if you're able to check it out -- lots of great material there.

It might be worth it for you just to buy the Blu-Ray to get the code -- because you can access and watch the extra "second screen" content either in synch with the movie while watching it on Blu-Ray -- or independently, with no Blu-Ray playback -- where you can read it like one big ebook. It's definitely one of the best and most thorough behind-the-scenes/making of volumes that has ever been produced -- and in an excellent interactive format. - Jay

It's fittingly ironic that it was cut given the similarly erotic natured type of deleted scene of TRON and Yori in Yori's apartment in the original film. - Jay

I have to say that was a lot less than I'd hoped for, but oh well.
I have an iPad, which I am in fact using to write this post, but unfortunately I do not own, nor do I have plans to own, a Blu ray player.
