Hi, so I'm doing a research paper on movie piracy and I need your opinions on the issue. If you could contribute two cents that would be much appreciated

I would love to help.
Myself, I am not in favor of Piracy, but I see the benefits of piracy.
- Cheaper than going to the theater
- Can allow viewing of a film, if one is unable to attend a movie theater due to illness
.
However, it is not without its disadvantages.
- Nothing beats the experience of seeing it in theater
- IF you like the movie, you help in the production of a sequel
These are just a few reason I could come up with off the top of my head

I also might as well add the actual problems with legit audio purchases (some of this trickles over into film media since music and movies are so tightly intertwined) that have sprung up, and by that I mean besides the fact that it costs money. For instance, on numerous occasions, purchases from iTunes have ended up being wasteful. On some occasions a song had ended up being a cheap remix or the wrong edit (which isn't determinable with a 5-second preview). And a couple times it ended up being the entirely wrong artist!
I remember a lot of people complaining about this kind of thing on Napster back in the day. But apparently legal sales sites are making the same mistakes with MP3's. Sometimes the info is wrong. Sometimes the compression is terrible. Sometimes the recordings are oversampled, etc.
People shell out countless cash to listen to Autotune sing when once they were paying the same relative amount of money to hear actual talent. (if you don't know what Autotune is, look it up)
-------------------------
For movies:
Another thing that is very common now is splitting DVD features up in such a way that the only way to get everything you want, is by purchasing EVERY version of the DVD package, which means repeatedly buying things you already own.
Speaking of buying things you already own... for those of us who have been around since the dawn of electronic storage of media: First we had to buy it on VHS, (Sony tried to force us all to buy everything again on Beta which was better but that flopped), then we had to buy the same material again on DVD. And then we were encouraged to buy it all a third time on Blu Ray. And now we'll have to do it all a fourth time on Blu Ray 3D. And I'm sure about 5 years from now they'll be telling us to buy the SAME THING we already bought 4 times before, so we can have it in some new state of the art holographic format.
It all boils down to this: It's only theft if a consumer does it. If a corporation does it, its business.

My experience with Tron:
If I really love a movie, I'll watch it in the theater multiple times (with my wife), so that's about $60 or more in ticket sales alone (Tron: Legacy we saw 3 times, once at IMAX).
Then I'll buy some of the video games: $30 for PC game, $1 for iOS game, and downloaded the free one on iOS that's basically an ad to make sure I buy the home video...which I do.
Then I buy both albums from the movie, another $20 or so.
I bought a few collectible toys, $20.
Now, here's where 'piracy' falls in for me. I have a 3D projector from 2009. I have a 3D Blu-Ray player (PS3), I have 3D glasses (nvidia 3D Vision). None of that jives unless I buy either a Blu-Ray drive for my PC or a new projector. Both unacceptable. My display is 100% true 3D compatible and is marketed and sold that way, but since they screwed all early 3D adopters by requiring HDMI 1.4 for 3D, the ONLY way I can play 3D video is if I get a specific version and play from my PC.
That said, I also bought the 4-disc set and the original classic on Blu-Ray. MSRP of what, like $60?
That's around $200 in sales for Tron. Yet if I want 3D, I still have to resort to other means and frankly I'm glad it's out there, despite being an honest paying customer.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

I pirate movies. Not to get out of seeing them in theaters, but simply because I can't be arsed to go and rent them, or hijack the family netflix queue. Most of the movies I've torrented now are all movies I own anyway, albeit on VHS or something. The ones I don't own are ones I never WOULD own because either they're so horrible (the Hulk movie, others), or on principle I don't want the people involved having my money. Others are things that have never been properly released and as such cannot be bought, such as just about any Disney-related TV series. And when Disney pulled the original Tron, I torrented it because I didn't own a copy... I have a crappy VHS a friend copied for me in the 90s.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pillwhere to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

I saw something about piracy at a theater once (is there any better place ). It talked about how Piracy may not affect the actors or the directors much, but what about all the other people that helped make that movie. The lighting guy, the sound guy, the guy that painted the sets. They're not super rich like the actors, they need the money. Our ticket stubs get them their pay stubs. You wouldn't deny a poor working guy his pay check, would you? order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill Tron, Back to the Future, Clockstoppers, Bionicle, Wallace and Gromit,

Ever find it interesting how a movie ticket is $15 regardless of whether the film's budget was 1 mil or 300 mil?

Really? Cause in my area tickets at the first round of theaters are $5.50 for a matinee and $7.50 for everything else. 3D movies automatically add 2 dollars extra though.

And technically if I did ride a DeLorean, I would come from 1955 and come back to the future!

I mostly lurk these days.
I'll be a little more vocal in the next few weeks. Selling more of my TRON collection off now that Disney has purchased some of it.
I don't like posting much here anymore because the new crowd seems to prefer arguing and sniping to talking.
Hence my removal of my earlier comment in this thread. DaveTRON

When it comes to music and movies, I think piracy is overhyped and overblown. The record labels and movie studios make more than enough money as it is now.
I'll use the Tron Legacy soundtrack as an example. Disney releases 2 incarnations of the score in 1 disc and 2 disc versions. Then on top of that, online sites like Itunes and Amazon get exclusive songs like "Sea Of Simulation" that the consumer has to pay extra for on top of their CD purchase. In my opinion, that's just plain good old fashioned American greed rearing its ugly head in the entertainment industry once again.
If piracy gives these companies even the slightest proverbial thumb in the eye, so be it. These artists, actors, actresses... they have more money than they'll ever spend in their lives. Personally, I don't think they deserve it nor have they earned it.order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill "Evolution is the greatest force in the material world.
