It didn't dawn on me till now, that the hook actually catches Flynn in the center of the disc, and the hooks aren't wide enough to touch it. Which pretty much means, if anything should've happened, it'd be Flynn getting dragged backward. The grappler never actually touches the disc. Oops.

Quite frankly, i just attribute it to the clothing change. Which, to me, represents a change of mindset. So if his attitude/intentions have changed, why wouldn't something so personal as his disc also change?

I mean, the switch to black clothing tells us, before any dialogue happens, that KF has made a choice about something--he's decided it's time for kicking ass and taking names. It's a cliche, of course, that he's switching from "peaceful" white to "ninja" black, but I think there's more than that too:

Black is the original color he was wearing in the Grid. You could say it's what he was wearing back when his attitude was different, when he was taking an active part in the Grid rather than sitting on the sidelines doing his own thing. In addition, black is also the color that just about every other program wears, so you could say the change also represents that he is not setting himself apart from everyone else anymore (hiding out).

Good point. But maybe if Sark took away all the discs? None of the programs would do what they were supposed to, and the users on the other end would have figured out that something corrupted the system and pulled the plug on the whole thing; deleting Sark and the MCP as well.
