Wow it looks like the original Tron comes with a LOT more stuff. Is that all the stuff that came with the 20th anniversary release? I don't have that release.

I've got the 5 disc preordered at Amazon for $45 but might just cancel that since I want to get the Walmart copy with the bike. Might as well just get the original Tron on blu to get the extras and cancel the 5 disc set even though I love that cover.

The 5 disc set should come with all the extras. Another nickel and dime job. With coupons likely the two separate sets will likely be cheaper than the 5 disc set is too (you can't get it for $45 anymore, that used an older coupon, now it's $50.)

Pretty much, yes. The 20th anniversary stuff was very detailed and I think this re-release only adds one or maybe two extra features which to me isn't worth shelling out the extra money for the blu-ray. Besides, just because a movie as old as Tron is being released on blu-ray doesn't necessarily mean it's going to look better.

Last time I went to a MovieStop they had at least 4 or 5 copies of the 20th anniversary Tron DVD for sale. They weren't charging exorbitant prices for it either, more like under $20 which is what I paid for it when it came out back in 2002. I also think that the boxart on the 20th anniversary DVD looks much better than what Disney opted for on this upcoming release.

I discovered today that while Legacy is being made available in the UK in 4 Blu-ray package formats, we're being shafted on classic Tron!

Legacy Blu-ray is either 1-Disc (2D), 2-Disc (2D + 3D), 1-Disc (2D) + 1-Disc Classic Tron or UK Collectors package with has 1-Disc (2D) + 1-Disc Classic Tron, the 1 CD Soundtrack album, graphic novel and a couple of postcards.

Classic Tron isn't available independently from either of the Legacy sets... so if you want 3D Legacy and Classic it needs 2 separate purchases and either way you end up with 2 copies of Legacy.

I'm not too sure about this . . .

I think I'll get the 5-disk set in the ID Disc, just for the sake of having everything + the light-up disc.

I may end up buying the other versions just to be a spoiled completionist.

My bank took out the money I was going to use for the movies. Now I don't have enough money for the movie, but still enough for my bills.

Now, which do I choose Internet and Phone Bill or the 5 Disc edition....

Remember guys, if you are Disney Rewards Club members wait until 4/5 to put in your codes even if you get the movie early. They are giving everyone who registers the movie on launch day double points, pretty nice reward for Tron fans!

Also, my posts in here previously were in error, the 5 disc version of Tron Legacy comes with all the bonus materials. The only thing it is missing is the original Tron on DVD.

I assume this is their sale price? If so then I may get this set with the movie rewards coupon. Still would prefer a standard blu-ray set of both movies (no dvd or 3d blu-ray copies).

In spite of the complaints about having to fumble through the 'stack', I pre-ordered the disc replica version. It looks nicer than the light-up toy disc anyhow, and I wanted that. As long as the DVD's aren't getting damaged by being in such a case, I don't care.

From Target description:

"The Master Control Program is booted back up in this revamped Tron continuation that sees the return of original star Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn, the brilliant computer programmer whose disappearance leads his son, Sam (Garrett Hedlund), to search for him in and out of the computer world."

Did they watch the movie? MCP is not in it!

I looked at the ad and saw prices $19.99 for the 2 disk sets on both films. Not bad. If Best Buy doesn't beat it, I may go before work, since its my late night.

The best deal I have found so far is Best Buy, especially for those like me who don't need the 3d blu-ray discs:

1. Legacy blu-ray 2 disc for $19.99
2. Tron blu-ray 2 disc for $14.99

$35 and change. Beats the combo set even with the movie rewards $5 coupon.

What does the new Classic Tron release have that the 20th doesn't? Or vice versa? Should I still keep my 20th ann. version because of the extras? Or does the re-release not have these?

On another note, I have watched to blu-ray release already and must say the sound editing/mixing is incredible. No sarcasm here, but the surround sound is up there with the best, next to Gladiator.

There is an informational banner at the film’s beginning that advises that the aspect ratio will switch between 2.35:1 and 1.78:1 (IMAX), which was barely noticeable.

The 7.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack is a dynamic tour de force that will test your system’s limits. Dialogue is appreciably lucid through the center channel and is located just slightly in front of the left/right speakers within the acoustic space it occupies in the soundfield.

If you have a system that you think is it up to the task, crank this one up to reference, and enjoy.

Due to funds I will have to wait for the standalone cheapie version of Legecy to hit... Sad Program is Sad.

JInfantry23 Wrote:By the way - who else HATES it when they give you the blu-ray, digital download, and the regular dvd version in the same pack? Why would I need the regular dvd if I have a blu ray machine?

Simple. I'ts to give people who currently have dvd players a way to get the hyperneato bundle packs, still have something now, while giving them incentive to get a blu-ray player.

Now that everyone's talking about it, and since Target & Best Buy are offering such a great deal, I too am thinking about getting Tron Original on Blu-Ray.

I hope the 20th Anniversary set resurfaces once the euphoria of Legacy's release wears off. I'd like to have both versions, even if the 20th has a few less features on it than the Blu-Ray release.

Regarding everyone's thoughts on which version to buy, I have the 5-disc set on pre-order using Amazon Prime. Should get here in time for my Tron movie party! I like having the other versions available, as I like to back up the dvd version to my Windows Media Center server.
