Hopefully you'll know someday you can keep it. My wife and I have been through bliss and hell together for many years. The secret? If both of you actually consider a vow for life serious and would rather die than break it, it can be done.

Some people are very good liars too. I'll never marry again! So not worth the pain.
In listening to Bruce at PHXCC, he seemed a bit bitter about his divorce, even while not saying anything about it. And that was a 16 year venture.

precisely. And some people are quite serious about their vows....until they're suddenly not so serious anymore. Oops.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: I will never again make a promise that is based on someone else's behavior. Not down with other people breaking my promises FOR me, thanks. BTDT. Thank heaven we weren't actually married. I'll also not make a serious promise I myself would break under the right circumstances: sorry, I'm not sticking around for abuse, cheating, becoming an axe murderer, etc. Some things are dealbreakers and not open to compromise.
