Hi all, need some advice.
Popped down to my folks over the weekend and my father decided to show me some letters he had found dating from 1915, 1917, 1920. One is addressed to his Great Grandfather and the others two his Great Grandfather's cousin. I am trying to track down any records of them both. Upside is that on two of the three letters I have a Name, Rank, Corps and a number which I am assuming is his serial number. Downside is that the actual letters are not there I think my Grandmother might have them (trying to call her but she is always at the bingo...........no this is not a steriotype she REALLY is at the bingo a lot!)
Information I do have as it appears on letter:
Spamped: 18/12/17
Sergt William Thompson, 3943
Royal Flying Corps
Aeroplane Repair Section
No.1 Aircraft Depot
B.E.F
France
And another:
On His Majesty's (rest blocked by stamps)
Mr A. Glass
62 old Fold Street
Gateshead on tyne.
16 Mar 20
on the back: Kings Crt No 4843
any clues where I might start to find out further information?
P.S one of the letters was address from a Miss Jane living in France and I have it on good authority from my grandmother that Srgt William Thompson had a fancy lady in france lol

I just did a google search for "British Military Records" and found this site:
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/default.htmThis could be a good place to start.
I'm sure they must have the equivalent of a VA (Department of Veterans Affairs) or (VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) organization in England, so you might try to figure out how to contact them as well.

Thanks I'll give it a try. I did put a request in at the National Records to see if they can find anything, but while I wait for a response I'd like to try and get things moving myself  any other suggestions?

Managed the find those records I was after from the National Archives
