This reminds me of Einstein's time travel conundrum. I think it was Einstein...
Anyway, he (if it was him) presented the problem of a person going back in time to kill their father, because they want never to have been born. So they go back, succeed and were never born, but the problem is, if they were never born, they couldn't have gone back in time to prevent their birth, so they were born, but they went back in time and prevented their birth, so they weren't born, but if they weren't born there was no one to prevent the birth. Ha. And then you've broken time and caused a circle of nonsense that will never end.

The Grandfather Paradox makes this an impossibility. If you went back in time and killed your parents, you'd still exist. Why? Because by going back in time you are creating a new timeline tangential to the one whence you came from. To put it simply, Back to the Future is flawed. Marty would not be erased from the photograph because even if his parents never got together he would still exist, he just wouldn't have been born in that instance of the timeline. The problem with people thinking about time travel is that, as Doc says, aren't thinking fourth dimensionally, they are thinking linearly.

Time Travel is a nasty business. If we're thinking 4th dimensionally, I figure that means you can't change time, but time changes you.

So if you go back in time to try to prevent your birth and if you'd still exist, It seems to mean our perception of time is changed, but not the events contained therein.

CorrupTron Wrote:Stephen Hawking suggested that the absence of time travelers from the future is an argument against the possibility of time travel because if it were possible we'd already have time travelers or "tourists" from the future among us now but how would we know they were time travelers at all? They certainly would not be able to change their future, they could only affect the destiny of the time line they are currently in. That's the reason why Terminator is flawed.

And that's where different universes come in. Reminds me of why I love Fringe so much

I added a new destination in what I would do

I'd Go back in time and visit Washington D.C. on February 9th 1964 and stay there until 11th to see a specific band play at the Washington Sports Arena.

I dunno...I guess the good thing about time travel is that if you're not first in line and miss out on tickets, you just go back and try again, right?

I used to really want a sequel back in the 80's but if it had been made it would have been more of the same. I'm not sure how I would have reacted back then if someone had said there would be a sequel 28 years later and showed it to me. My reaction back then would probably be "That's not Tron."abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

You mean like in Star Trek 2009? Spock Prime's timeline still exists, he's just not in it anymore?

*has a flip-phone, is still trying to figure out a way to make it chirp when it's opened* Since the only thing I use my phone for is to call people(I'm a teenage girl and I don't text, I know, a great shock to everyone), I don't actually need one that does more. It might be cool to get an iphone(or whatever the Verizon equivalent is), then I wouldn't have to worry about having to remember to charge my phone - I never forget to charge my ipod.

(and then I'd come back to the present with soap and feminism and stuff. But I might spend one night way back then.)

Yeah, it really does depend on if you're going to visit or to stay. I don't think there would be any time I'd like to stay in, but there are plenty I'd like to visit.

I just got this mental image of a theater in 1982 - the premier, all the actors are there and staring with huge eyes as all the members of the Tron-Sector, who were too young or not born when the movie first came out, rez in out of nowhere (that's how I'd see it, no big machine, just some sort of belt you wear; you type in the day/month/year, press the button, and ZAP!). We're all carrying disks and wearing costumes covered in EL wire and such. We all file past the actors, waving and chattering - we'll get autographs and everything after the movie.

I would go back in time about 3 or 4 months and prevent Suck Masters from pulling the Castor figures from the S2 case packs and destroying almost all of them.

I'm down. I'm gonna steal like 50 Kevin Flynn and Rinzler discs (maybe that's why there's such little supply).

I don't want to travel back in time, I want to go like 10 years in the future. I just hope that the entire world hasn't been destroyed. As soon as I walk out of the time machine I die from radiation poison (or possibly cannibals/zombies devouring my flesh). That would suck.

Irradiated cannibal zombies? (luckily they glow so you see them coming)

But look on the bright side: maybe you'll go to the future and discover you're in a band that changes the world, and then George Carlin shows up, and...
