I always liked the idea and even though Flynn was shown piloting a Recognizer, that they were autonomous sentient (albiet low) machines. Tanks were almost always showed in relationship with pilots but other then Flynn, the recognizers were not.
Why can't the vehicles contain their own 'routines' or sentience level? After all, Flynn says "I never should have written all those tank programs", seems like they could. We have many self-piloting machines in our world.
It could be a hiearchy, kind of like how the Cylons had the numbered/human looking models and then they had the 'toasters'. Even the raiders where self-aware.
So what do you think about self-aware Recgonizers, Tanks, Lightcycles, Lightjets, etc? Actually I think it better plays if only the Recognizers were, since they are so large and ominous.abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

Who says they don't already? Perhaps they're like Cylon Raiders in the Ron Moore Battlestar Galactica - sentient but programmable.

If so, then why do they all need / have pilots / crew?

That is exactly why I wouldn't want it to be like that. We have enough sentient machines running around in scifi-land already. "Word to the Motherboard!" - IsoLine |

Ever watch Red vs. Blue?
the TRON universe has enough problems to deal with already. We don't need the vehicles getting whiney and forming labor unions.

Bad thing is Clu could just tell every vehicle he had to attack without program pilots/drivers. In a film, that would make it too easy. IRL, too scary.
Forget it, Mr High and Mighty Master Control. You aren't making me talk.

What if, say Tanks and Recognizers, where remote piloted, like modern day drones. abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

Funny, in the original film I always thought the Recognizers had some kind of sinister sentience until Flynn piloted one. The ornate menacing design naturally gives an appearance that it has some kind of AI. I'd have no problem if the Recos were sentient.

The "face" on the old recos in particular is a leftover relic from an early robot-like design if I recall. So, at some point they probably were meant to be sentient, like a really primitive game sprite or a vector enemy.

The Recognizer head always resembled Maximillian from The Black Hole.

I'd prefer that they stay non-sentient, to be honest. To me, vehicles in Tron are like game sprites or 3D models - without program logic (represented by a pilot) to drive them, they're just inert data.
