So when Sam heads back to the arcade, flips the switch, and the jukebox turns on...any rhyme or reason to what comes on, or was it just director's choice of "dude these are my favorite 80s songs ever!!!"?
(*I* would've put in maybe "You Give Love A Bad Name"--that was out by '89, right? Or...or..."Don't Stop Believing" would be perfect, lol)

Hi Kat,
Two songs by the band 'Journey' were featured in the original Tron film. 'Only Solutions' and '1990's Theme'. The first is featured during the scene where Flynn breaks his high score at Space Paranoids and also during the end credits. The second track is featured briefly when the Tron arcade game is played in the opening scene...
So i guess Journey were included in Legacy as a homage to the original scenes in 1982 Tron.

I don't think the arcade lasted as late as '89. For one, there was a dieout of arcades between the early 80s heyday of Pac-Man and the rest of the class of '79-'83 (including the big videogame crash of 1984) and the revival of the arcade scene in the 1990s beginning with the original Street Fighter II in 1991. For another, you can look at the titles on the game marquees when the power come on, and it's all the same early 80s classics that we saw in the original film. Even upstairs, we see Flynn's handheld Coleco Football game collecting dust rather than, say, a first-generation Gameboy as were common in the late 80s.
That leads me to conclude that the arcade closed sometime not that long after the original film, perhaps in '84 when the rest of the scene died out. Flynn had his position back and more at ENCOM, and hardly needed to keep it open. It's very likely that he shut it down when it stopped getting crowds and from then on only went there for his basement laboratory. Thus, the jukebox (which like all of them surely worked from 45rpm vinyl singles at that time) would still be loaded with the same early 80s classics it held when the arcade was still open. It's possible to set a jukebox to play a sample selection, between three and five songs, periodically to remind customers that it's there and prompt them to put money in to keep the music going. When the power came back on, it went into "play samples" mode and chose the Journey and Eurythmics songs from it's selection.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

Hrm. I guess I had assumed that when Flynn said he was going to work, he meant the arcade--I assumed he did that at night after the Encom day job.
Still want "Don't Stop Believing." Maybe for the next one.where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

I'm glad they went with the tracks they did. That Bon Jovi choice would've been an eegads moment for me. The Journey song they chose is somewhat appropriate since Flynn and Sam went "separate ways" for a while. I think it was by design. order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

Yeah, I thought the song choices were great. And you're right, separate ways was semi-appropriate.

Yeah, but pretty creepy when you realize the song is about a bad break up between a guy and a girl. Kinda awkward in that Arrested Development Bluth Company 'Afternoon Delight' karaoke way.

Yeah, Supertramp was supposed to be the band that played in TRON, but they had to bow out and Journey was available to fill in and I think the substitution was pretty good. I like Supertramp and all, but something tells me TRON the Movie and Soundtrack would be totally different with them instead of Journey....I mean Journey was so perfect in a way as their name describes the movie so well, its a totally digital and philosophical Journey in so many ways. In retrospect the only persons I think could have done possibly better back then in TRON would be RUSH.

This thread got me thinking about their choice for Ladytron for the movie.
Maybe one of their reasons, besides their music, was because they have "Tron" in their name.
Unfortunately, Tron and Ladytron went their separate ways. (no pun intended)

I could see Gary Numan creating a chiling song for the film....His song "Airlane" sounds like it could be used in a video game. Never really liked Depeche much but some of their sounds would be cool. "Word to the Motherboard!" - IsoLine |
