I heard about these awhile back but actually found them today while at the super market. The base is thin plastic, but the cycle is sweet! It has an on/off button on the bottom that makes the cycle glow blue, nice and bright. The cycle is not connected to the base at all. The scale is somewhere between the diecast and the Hallmark ornament. I recommend picking one up if you can. Most stores will let you just buy the decorations without a cake, I paid $5.99 for mine.
