lol. Other sources have said the film made 36 million with the first midnight screenings. I'm sure that number will go up much much higher...

18million is pretty good for one day Friday... a lot of people had school/work and couldn't go. It is also finals week for college students. I think the numbers are exactly where they should be due to all the shortcomings of Tron Legacy (and I am a fan of the original). I thought Tron Legacy did not live up to the original (contrary to what most fanbois are posting).
I had high hopes for Tron Legacy, perhaps too high. My only hope now is that if another sequel is made that more time and effort is put into it.
I hate thinking of Tron Legacy as WarGames2, LawnmowerMan2, CaddyShack2, etc., but it really was a sequel that did not do the original justice, same as the other films listed above.

Sure, but Disney was probably expecting a bit more, considering that the budget reportedly pushed $300m and they had been advertising the film hard for two years.
We'll see how it handles the holiday rush. I think a $200m domestic gross guarantees another one, but what do I know? These numbers are only US box office. We've no idea what money teh film made on the international markets.

hey folks, we got a long road ahead of us. It's only the second day of showing. Avatar was slow on the first weekend, but became the highest grossing movie ever.

Nikki Finke says the movie is the highest percentage-to-gross midnight IMAX first-screening ever, with more than 25% of the movie's midnight total coming from IMAX screenings.

I am honestly shocked at how eagerly some supposed TRON fans have turned on Legacy. I tell yah, you just can't make some people happy.
I think TL will more than surpass production cost, look for it to satisfy domestically and whale internationally.

Very successful movies have MANY return viewers, which is something that is not being said about TL. IMO on top of that a lot of those attending were there just to hear and see a DP rave only to see it not happen.
Everyone will just have to wait until 2038 for the next sequel. Hell, maybe by then the grid will be real.

Dissapointed with Box Office returns. This movie should have done 60-70 at least. Hell, I hate to predict doom and gloom. I've been waiting 2 years plus 20 more for this.
I really liked the movie, but even during the summer I couldn't see the film making more than $200m domestically. (And even then, I think with international and ancillaries that's the magic number that brings us Tron 3. Which, you know, is still possible with the two busiest weeks of the year on the way and a three-month IMAX run.)
