The Los Angeles World Premiere for TRON: LEGACY was held this past Saturday, December 11th at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood (which followed the recent World Premieres for the movie in Tokyo, Japan and London, England). The filmmakers and cast of the movie (including the perpetually, mysteriously masked French DJ Duo: Daft Punk - who scored the movie) were out in full force and walked down the lengthy TRON-themed blue carpet that was laid out onto the world famous Hollywood Boulevard -- which had been closed down for this exclusive event.
Several hundreds of onlookers gathered around the theatre, and looked on excitedly as the filmmakers and cast greeted fans and posed for pictures and interviews with the press.
I rezzed up onto "The Grid" there, and it was quite a site to behold: it was as if Hollywood had been transformed into "The World of TRON": iconic TRON imagery was projected via laser lighting onto the buildings surrounding the theatre, and blue hued light cascaded and accented the boulevard. TRON: LEGACY styled sirens walked amongst the crowd, and ultimately stood next next to a life-size replica light cycle from the movie (which has also been seen at various promotional events and conventions, including Comic-Con, over the past couple of years).
A gigantic, five-story "identity disc" was fittingly placed high above the theatre's marquee and entrance -- symbolically "equipping" those entering this theatre's "portal" for their passage into the digital world of TRON: LEGACY -- as characters in the TRON movies are given an "identity disc" when first entering the digital world.
This night marked my second viewing of TRON: LEGACY -- and I found myself seeing (and hearing) elements that I didn't even catch upon my first viewing of the movie (which I enjoyed immensely). The fantasy digital world depicted in TRON: LEGACY is so dynamic and immersive, that the cliche "you have to see it twice to catch everything" is an understatement here. There's incredible artistry and creativity layered into this movie on many levels: it's very clear everyone involved in the making of this movie brought their "A game" when producing it.
Below are videos showcasing the TRON: LEGACY Premiere's set-up on Hollywood Boulevard, along with footage of the filmmakers and cast walking down the blue carpet and giving interviews.
