It's five pages and I think it's very well written.

Some of that article's commentary is highly debatable, and there are factual errors as well.

Am I the only one getting tired of the "Tron in 1982 was a flop" meme being pushed by this and other articles that totally ignores that it made 33 mil when it only cost 17 mill. tgo make, and it's long term success with tie-in videogames, inspiring the further developement of CGI, inspired the forming of Pixar by John Lasseter, and had garnered many long time fans among the computer tech geeks for the past 28 years?

It' really lame that these "professional" journalists online put together these short fluff peices that treat the original Tron like it had no signifance at all. Or if they do breifly mention it had impact in many ways, they still spout "oh it floped". Why the FRAKK do they have always mention this?

It doesn't matter that it didn't acheive massive, mainstream success like E.T. in the short run, neither does it matter that it was forgotten my mainstream audiences at the time as the years went on. Blade Runner wasn't a massive box office blow out success either, and the critic bashed it too. But I NEVER seen any articles refering to Blade Runner as "a flop" when it was re-released to DVD... But now it's considered to be a great film by many Sci-fi film fans.

Those critics and mainstream audiences didn't *get* TRON or Blade Runner. massive number Tickets sales IMO do NOT mean a movie is a "good" or "great" movie. ( Just as massive high rating don't neccessarily equel a "great/good" tv show.... Like Dancing With the stars or American Idol get's super high ratings, but IMO those and most reality shows are *awful*)

Many good and even GREAT films have done lack luster at the box office but are actually really good movies (most recently "Moon", "Museum of Doctor Parnases").
Whereas some way over-blown films made millions at the box office but weren't that good (Transformers: Rise of the Fallen, the last american Godzilla movie, Paranormal Activity, The Clash of the Titans remake, Blair Witch... *barfs* )

Tron may not of made as much as E.T. or be as " well known"; but did E.T. inspire the creation of something like Pixar? No. Did E.T. Inspire computer tech engineers? No. Did E.T. breakground on showing the viabilty of CGI in SFX for movies and televison? No.
TRON did inadevertantly "predict" the future, but that wasn't it's only influence. It's annoying that WIRED seems to miss all the other ways it had an impact and influence. No, they just rather repeat the tired old flimsy meme "oh it floped".
Yes, Tron wasn't "perfect" or some super duper great literary work of film. But it was, and still IS an imaginative, mystical cyber-punk fairy tale movie and still very, very enjoyable.

Just as I highly doubt there's some conspiracy to "hide" the original TRON film, and I doubt Sean Bailey is "ok with" the "Tron was a flop" idea spouted by some in the media who've done poor research and just write some short fluff peice.

I think DaveTron knows some of the valid reason's why the Blu-Ray HD release of TRON has been delayed and it's not really that "Disney wants people to forget the original TRON". The reasons some have come up with for such a conspiracy are weak and speculative in my view.

I doubt Sean Bailey who, is now head of Entertainment production at Disney would just up and conspire to "sweep 1982 Tron under the rug" Like some claim... That's not the impression I get with all the interview footage and the footage with Steven Lisberger talking about the original TRON. I don't see him being censored or edited. If it seemed like he was pressured to not talk about the original Tron or mention the Blu Ray then maybe that'd be some evidence. But all I see is speculation and claims based on heresay.

That way, people can be introduced to the original to prevent any pre-conceived notion that it'll be cheesy or pre-judging it from the commercials.

That sounds like the most plausible theory. And who knows, *maybe* they're updating some graphics as well, like the way the original Star Trek series was remastered for Hi-Def and got updated graphics here and there.
