Let's not have any illusions, here. Anyone who would notice ANY recurring musical themes from the first film to the second is a "total Tron geek."

This logic doesn't follow. If you were handed the score to the first film before its release, and not told what it was from, you would also not know. The worth of a score is how well it accompanies the film's visual landscape and character's journeys.
There's nothing wrong with wishing they had used melodies from the first film, but let's have some perspective. That one choice doesn't measurably affect the worth of the score as a whole. |

The Grid. A digital frontier. I tried to picture clusters of information as they moved through the computer. What did they look like? Ships? Motorcycles? Were the circuits like freeways? I kept dreaming of a world I thought I'd never see. And then, one day. I got in. |

It is an incredible score and I admit even different from what I thought it might sound like in my mind, but I agree that there are going to be a few DP fans that will defy logic and wonder why there aren't more dance tracks.
Wendy Carlos's score is so iconic that yes I would have liked to have seen at least one song that is a bigger nod or homage to her music. Still hoping we at least here a few opening bars of the original TRON music somewhere in the movie.
The Lost in Space movie was horrible, but at least the opening theme song was a cool new take on the original TV series song. I could be wrong, but it seemed like in the Star Wars and Star Trek movies they'd recycle some variation of the original music.

I listened to the TRON OST before the movie on the strength of Walter/Wendy Carlos' previous scores; The Shining, I think. It was very odd. Then, after watching the movie it all fell into place and has become one of my favourite albums. I don't get all the haters complaining that the DP score doesn't reference the original movie. It shouldn't have to. Also, people forget that DP are massive TRON fans and want the saga to continue.
I look at the TRON Legacy score much in the same way I looked at John Murphy's score for the Miami Vice movie (as in no Jan Hammer and no MV theme), it's for a new generation. http://wayfarer2006.blogspot.com/

Sure, it would be nice to have a few bars of Wendy Carlos in TRON Legacy.
But c'mon, don't shoot down the overall score should there not be a homage.
Things could be alot worse. Lets just be happy with what we have here, so far.

There are some tracks that have a somewhat Wendy Carlos-ish vibe/aspect to it. When one listens carefully to certain tracks, one should notice it; if one listens carefully to certain key tracks that is.
I've listened to the leaked OST, like about 12 times, and I feel that the music is fantastic and I can't wait to see how the music is synced to the scenes in Tron Legacy.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

and like is said..for those constantly complaining about there not being homage to the first film's score,
listen to "Theme from tron"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylwVVyCj7-8
and then listen to "adagio for tron"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFIXKXYfEy0
u can clearly hear similarities.....

Tron Unit Wrote:CaptainCR Wrote:Tron Unit Wrote:Bah, Adagio For Tron "barely" uses Wendy Carlos' theme, in fact, it's barely just recognizable to make out unless you are a total Tron geek. I'm talking about the Tron Scherzo, you know, the arpeggiator that plays when you insert the coin in the Bally Tron game? That's what I'm talking about. It's a real missed opportunity by Daft Punk but they obviously wanted to leave their own signature kind of like Hans Zimmer's approach to Batman. I've nothing against it. It's a great score, but if someone said "Here, listen to this album," and I had no idea it was Daft Punk's score for Tron I'd have no idea which film it was from. I do like the orchestrations, in fact, I think they are the highlight of the album. |
actually i don't hear "Tron scherzo" i hear "theme from tron" u know, the main theme? and the song that plays during the I/O tower level in the arcade game?
you can clearly hear that in adagio for tron |
You misunderstood me. I was talking about how I wanted to hear the Tron Scherzo and was disappointed it wasn't used at all. During Adagio For Tron you can "barely" hear just a few notes that are vaguely similar to the Tron love theme but the major notes have been transcribed into minor keys. That's the only continuity to Wendy's themes. I always thought the Tron Scherzo was more identifiable especially because it is the first theme you hear when you drop a coin into the Bally Tron arcade game plus the arpeggiator was way cool. |
interesting, me personally i associate the "theme from tron" more so with tron than the scherzo, seeing as how it is the theme and is used more time sin the movie than scherzo "You know you don't look a thing like your pictures?" |

Thanks for posting that! I was stunned to read that there's "100 minutes of music" in the film. There certainly isn't on the soundtrack.
As for the Carlos/DP argument, didn't someone post something about Wendy Carlos not wanting anything to do with the new movie and somehow she was able to block themes being used in it? I could be wrong, it would have been very early in production and I feel like I've lived the making of this movie for three years. http://wayfarer2006.blogspot.com/

24. "Outlands, Part II"
1. "Encom, Part I"
2. "Encom, Part II"
3. "Round One"
4. "Castor"
and
5. "Reflections"

I'd rather listen to every track from the Tron Legacy soundtrack than 98% of the garbage played on the radio...

Ok, mates...
I work at FYE. We got our shipment in a few days ago with the OST in it. I GEEKED OUT.
My boss said if I could guarentee that I would buy it when it came out, we could open one and listen to it while closing...
I flashed a fifty dollar bill.
Guys, while working, the second or third track came on...
My manager and I both had to stop what we were doing, for we both started shaking when the voice of Kevin Flynn echoed through the store, speaking of the world he dreamed of...
I gotta admit...I cried a little.
