The original Tron film had religious metaphors all over it. One could probably write a 50 page essay on it. So why the heck not?

And... please, you guys, if you're going to have a Holy war, or a Darwin war, do it on the grid. :P

I'm a Christian.

My "problem" is this whole "cool modern" stuff.

I love and go to a Contemporary worship service. But, the church I was previously at became the "we're too cool for cool" type of church with people that put you down for being a Christian without the latest iPhone and MacBook and Tatoos/Piercings.

This whole "trying to be cool/relevant" by copying the latest Disney movie sort of eerks me (especially being a BIG TRON fan).

I know where you are coming from. I used to go to a church here in San Diego (The Rock church)) and I recall those times. I remember I used to be in that "cool" crowd for awhile, but I really learned what being at church was all about. It's really getting bad these days. Its like a governmental takeover on them now. Heck. I sometimes want to be like Flynn and just hide somewhere for awhile LOL. But I know I must shine some kind of light to others. Anyone remember when The Matrix first came out? I remember hearing gripes from a lot of Christians about that.

"He's not any kind of program, Sark. He's a User. "
- the MCP

"Well, I - it's just - I don't know, a User, I mean... Users wrote us. A User even wrote you! "
- Sark

It's interesting that Sark and the MCP claim that it's a "superstitious and hysterical belief" when all the while they know it to be true. Kinda mirrors reality don't you think?

Also an atheist here, I don't find this alienating as much as just offensive really...
It's pretty good cg, but that doesn't really distract me from how ridiculous and annoying this is...

That is a form of alienation.

Well, I meant it doesnt make me feel alienated. I dont feel left out or anything here. Just the offended bit.

No no no, I mean that a lot of Churches were jumping on the bandwagon with a sort of Matrix spiritual styling as a way to be hip and cool.

I think he's implying that atheists are in denial. But, I'm not quite sure.

I assumed he was referring to the tendency of dictatorships and authoritarian systems (for example, the USSR and - until recently - China) to either suppress religion altogether or to attempt to replace it with a Religion of the State or a Divine Emperor.

Thats what I read out of that too. Which is ridiculous.

Again, that's not what I inferred. Not that it would be horribly unlikely - "everyone knows in his/her heart that God is real" is a typical Christian mindset, although I think it was rejected as an actual church teaching centuries ago. (Augustine? Not sure.) Given that most people in the church were either raised in the church, or are the type who are prone to that sort of yearning, it's not hard to see where the idea comes from.

Ultimately, he'll have to pop back in and tell us what he meant.

You mean how people try all the time to tell me how I just appeared on the planet magically and am not an offshoot of any other species? I'm told I just up and popped here when I know it isn't true? Yep. PERFECTLY mirrors reality. But I don't want to get into this.

*pop*

Sorry, I don't like to post while at work:

I don't see how it would be rejected if it's from Paul's writing:

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

In any case, the video is clearly targeted specifically to Christians.

Actually that reminds me now... Sark and the MCP know that the Users are real, but nevertheless are telling the Pros that they are not, and that they should instead become One with the MCP. This makes the MCP out to be more like Lucifer during the time of Eden, rather than a dictator. One can still make a good bid for the imperialistic angle though, since the Roman symbolism is blatantly there too (forcing rebellious believers to die in gladiator-style games).

And now all this talk has me imagining Flynn quoting one of the funniest religious taglines of all time. "Don't MAKE me come down there..."
