New picture of TRON: Legacy concept art images

on Wednesday, July, 28, 2010 9:50 PM
I came across this story a little while ago:

http://popcultureaddict.com/comic-con-international-san-diego-comic-tron-in-3d-by-janet-l-hetherington/
And saw a picture of some concept art images that I hadn't previously seen.

The image isn't hotlinked in the story but here's the path to the stored image:

http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x9/blackcanary2000/more%20pca/July_22-1-TRON_017.jpg
If you look closely at the images, it seems that there was a little more circuitry than what we see in the images from the film. Maybe Mr. Neville Page and Traahn were thinking along the same lines (no pun intended!) after all!

P.S. Is that a picture of you in the story, BlueTronWarrior?

Oh wow! that's Amazing! I love how the suits in that picture looks a bit more "Tronish", so to say. More lines compared to what we've seen so far from the movie.

And BlueTronWarrior, so that's your upgraded suit, huh?

And HooDooMan, check your PM's.

Oh wow! How the light shines on the disk is epic! What is it made out of? It makes for a great picture. And I bet it must be fun seeing yourself featured on quite a bit of sites! :3

What I've dug up is that they did make suits exactly like in that concept art, but that the rubbery electro-luminesent tape kept breaking during filming of live action stunts/fighting scenes, and they had to be wired to a power supply because the battery pack kept draining to fast.

They had to re-design the suits so the "trace lines" wouldn't keep breaking and that battery power would last at least 12 minutes.

Originally Joe wanted to film "cyberspace" scenes with rain, but as soon as water got on the suits they wouldn't run properly at all. So that idea was scrapped.

My disc is made of resin. I read on one of the sites that the person who took that pic added that light flare after the pic was taken. Its still a great shot though, I've gotten a lot of complements on it.

Oh! Resin huh? By hand? or a custom order? And adding the flare huh? Gave your pic a nice touch. ^^ Still a great shot for you. :3

And about the prototype suits breaking, that bites, but, at least seeing how they originally wanted the suits to look like that, I'm happy now with the ones in the film.

OMG. The suit looks so much better with more circuity! That's what WAS MISSING.

Sad to hear that they had to reduce the lines because of that.

(Funny how they're able to do in Tron Legacy what they couldn't in Tron and now there's new stuff that they can't do in TL :P)

Though, really, couldn't they have added the extra lines via CGI? (I like having a good amount of circuity, darn it, not something that looks like an Apple product XP *gets an apple to the head, ow*)

Still, it makes so much more sense why they were unable to do the circuity that was originally planned for.where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

It might of taken another 2-3 years of post production and another few million $ to put more circuits print designs via CG, and there was a major issue the 3-D photography and digital rotoscoping conflicting in some way...order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

Hey Shadow,

Do you remember where you got that info from? Was it one of the "Set Visits"? Maybe a video interview? That sounds like it would be an interesting read/watch! I'd be interested in visiting the links if you could post them. If not, no big deal.

I don't think a lot of people realize how much money, time, and effort go into designing and producing costumes, sets, etc. for a major film production. I'm a bit awestruck when I think about the amount of engineering and creativity that went into designing and producing the suits for TRON: Legacy. Of course, it also give me pause as I contemplate attempting to create my own TRON: Legacy costume...LOL!

BlueTronWarrior, that's an awesome costume! That pic looks great, man! You must be stoked to see yourself all over the internet!

Kia, I think, as Shadow pointed out, it has something to do with the fact that they filmed in "TRUE" 3-D (using the Cameron/Pace Fusion Camera system), meaning they literally had two cameras side-by-side (mounted together in one unit), one representing the left eye, the other representing the right. Since the cameras see and records the same scene from a slightly different perspective, this gives depth perception, or 3-D. My guess is that adding CGI elements would have taken a ridiculous amount of time and would have been exorbitantly expensive. They probably COULD have done it TECHNICALLY, it just ended up being cost-prohibitive. I'm sure there's probably a number of other reasons as to why they didn't add more circuitry via CGI, but overall, I'm pretty happy with what I see so far. Except for CLU's mouth...what the heck is up with that?....LOL!

For CLU's mouth, probably just unfinished work. But I'm not upset by it, I actually like the way it's animated. And I just thought of this, but don't they have to use Jeff's own face movements to animate young CLU? And isn't Jeff's facial movements a bit... off? From what I've seen of him in his current age, he doesn't quite have the same face movements from his role in the first TRON. But... I may be wrong.

And hoodoo, check your PM's.

The info is from what I got from talking with Joseph Kosinski himself; some info from an article about when a few members where allowed to visit on the set, I don't remember which one; and comments gleened from one of the video interviews with Garret and Olivia, sorry I didn't bookmark them.

No problem, man. That's so awesome that you got to talk to Joe Kosinksi himself! How cool is that?

I wish they would release some more of the concept art that was created for TRON: Legacy. I know the book, "The Art of TRON: Legacy" (sorry if that's not the correct title), is coming out soon and I'm sure that will have a good bit. It would just be nice to have it in digital form. order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill

Traahn Wrote:Paint intricate green lines on suits, film suits with both cameras, tell computer to make green lines glow blue, orange and red, problem solved. Not as big of deal as they made it sound. Rotoscoping was 1982. This is 2010. They don't need to rotoscope anymore, nor do they need EL wire and tape for all the lines. Nor should it cost millions of dollars and countless hours of post-production. Don't believe the hype.

I have no idea how a CGI production pipeline works, so I'm clueless on the ease of the process. If it's really that simple, then maybe Kosinski just wanted a different look. I know that, due to his architectural background, that he likes practical sets, so maybe he just likes practical props and costuming, ones that actually light up themselves? Maybe that was a strong driver in his mind for not doing everything CGI? I'm just guessing though.where to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online

Pretty much, but there would be problems with the masking not quite matching up on either eye.
