Hi everyone.
I'm David and I run Universal Designs. We're responsible for the leather suits you see pictured above, and we are under license by Disney Consumer Products to manufacture and sell these goods to the general public.
I'm happy to answer any questions you may have pertaining to these goods...reflective materials VS actual light up lamps, and the suits will go up for sale on our website this month as a pre-sale with a limited amount of time to order for an 'End of November" delivery date so that you can have them on hand for the films premier...if anyone chooses to go that route. Otherwise, delivery will begin First Quarter 2011.
It's a very exciting contract, with a wonderful design and we're just proud to be a part of this incredible movie experience that is to be Tron Legacy.
Questions?? Fire away.
Thanks in advance.
David

DavidYR1, I've got a question. Will there be different sizes for the Tron suits? like XL sizes or larger? for both men and women? Or is there a size limit? I haven't found anything on the site about sizes on the suits.
Also, I'm sure other's will wonder about this, will there be one or two types of suits, one with actual lights and one with reflective tape? If there's two different types, will there be price differences?
But other then that, thank you for your time in sharing with us the information. The suit's look absolutely incredible!

Thanks so much and the pleasure is mine just being here.
Sizing is always done in Standard American Sizes. This means all parts are sold in separate sizes and the sizes usually run from XXS-XXL.
Boots also have their own size chart.
If you go to our website and see the TDK Batman suit page, while currently sold out, the size chart is still visible and that'll give you an idea as to how sizing works.
Yes you can get a Large jacket, Medium pants, Small gloves and size 10 boots. Mixing sizes is not a problem.
The reflective material suits, which are the ones pictured in this thread are going to be the first ones we offer to the public. The reflective nature of the elements in white are bright and work wonderfully. Not only, the price to the public with this option will be very affordable....at least that's our hope.
The actual light up jacket is something we're working on...and I'll have images of the fully lit jacket in a few days. The bottom line is getting 1 light up jacket done is one thing, doing 1,000 of them needs to be something I personally can guarantee to the public as a working jacket.
Getting just the one prototype jacket to work took almost a week, and we didn't make in time for the show, sadly. Furthermore, unless we can simplify the electronics process and how the integration of this light up lamps are assembled into the jacket, then really it can only lead to a million and one issues, concerns and problems from a full on production stand point.
Bottom line...is the jacket with the light up lamps cool? Oh Yea!!!! Do I want to see it go to market? Absolutely yes! However we have to find a productive way to manufacture this jacket with the power elements needed and that's what we're now focusing on.
The lamps are technically solid, and look fantastic. As does the suit with the the reflective elements only. We feel that the currently suits as seen here are going to be very popular with riders and fans of the film regardless but we are working on this light up version as well.
I can confirm though that the light up version of the Sam jacket wont be available for delivery in time for the premier of the film, that's only going to be possible for the reflective suits. We need time to come up with a proper production game plan otherwise the light up option will only become a production head ache in the long run for all interested parties......and the last thing we want to do is have any dissatisfied clients.
I'll post images and maybe video of the light up jacket in a few days, but in the meantime keep an eye on our website for the official release of the pre-sale for the movie replica suits as seen here in these images.
Some changes to note from the suits seen here:
Sam jacket will have the proper sized Male disk on the back of the jacket. He's currently got the female smaller disk...we ran out of time for the show.
Quorra jacket will have the white details reversed to the proper sides. Again, in the comic con rush we inverted them by accident.
Let me know if you need any more info!

Glad you dig them!!!
Price wise...what if Sam's jacket was in the $400-ish range? Less than $500.00?
The leather detailing is ridicules..the trim work a nightmare...and let's not forget the silicone hexagon prints on the fabric areas, but the suit as a whole or individually must be priced for today's economy and to hopefully be reasonably affordable for anyone interested.
We're working on this now, and are doing everything in our power to keep it all affordable.
The disk is not removable because it's not a costume...and the disk is part of the jacket as a whole. It looks like it could be a separate element, but permanently attached to the jacket.
Thanks again for the kind words.

About how much would the price jump be between the regular jackets and the light-up ones? Any ideas?

It's too soon to say at this point. Until I'm personally satisfied that our jackets can be produced with electronic wiring and power-up lamps on a large scale....I just wont be able to comment because honestly, I'm still not 100% sure this is a feasible version to produce in large quantities.
We do have one made, and it looks amazing...but until we can come up with a production game plan for a large amount of them to be produced, I wont be able to say.
It may be too ambitious a project, or we may come up with a valid production solution that will lead to this working for us as well.
We'll know more in the next few weeks.

This weekend we had The Fan Expo here in Toronto, and a big thanks to all who stopped by!
Our Tron Legacy suits were on hand and being worn by our 'Official' UD Model Mike in the Sam suit, and the lovely Liana K. in the Quorra suit.
The suits shown here are done with light sensitive-reflective finished leather. The show floor was extremely well lit but you can still see how the white details were set off by the camera flashes. This in a bright environment, just imagine in a darker room or after sunset.
We also had the Sam Tron Legacy jacket on display in the Tron booth...with working lights. Here's a short video showing the lights flickering and you can see the lights really well in the reflection on the back wall...sorry that it's rotated.
The inverters powering the 100 square inches of light have different settings...from 'always on' to different flickering speeds. We had it flickering because that way the battery charge would easily last 10+ hours. With the lights always on, the charge is 5 hours. Still a good amount of time, but the show days were longer than 5 hours....

Now...about this light up jacket...
This is STILL THE PROTOTYPE! It's no where near being done. It's a fantastic garment with incredible potential but once we have a final prototype that we're fully satisfied with, then and only then will further details be made available.
We want to see this hit the market ASAP, however the added complexities associated to the introduction of these lamps needs to first be dealt with... most importantly from a production stand point. Once we're ready we'll update this accordingly.
More to come!

TRON LEGACY Movie Replica Motorcycle Suits: Sam Flynn and Quorra.
Form molded leather, silicone print hexagon patterns and form molded 'Disk' on back of jackets. White piping is an incredibly light sensitive 'reflective' - custom treated leather finish.
Jackets, pants, boots and gloves! .......................They're coming!
Please note: The helmet is only for photo purposes. Used to convey the entire suit 'look' as a whole, and how it can compare to the movie costumes as seen on screen. We do not sell or manufacture 'helmets' as our License is for the outerwear garments only.
