"Tron Legacy" won't hit theaters until December 17th, but Disney is already moving forward with the sequel by hiring Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz (Tron Legacy, "Lost") to begin writing the script.

No details have been released since it's so early in the process, but some have been wondering whether the studio will have the sequel focus on spin-off characters or on a new adventure set in the "Tron" world. Insiders believe that Kitsis and Horowitz are working on way to turn the story into a trilogy.

No deals have been made with "Legacy" director Joseph Kosinski or cast members to return, though options were placed in the original deals. But like always, everything will depend how the first film performs at the box office."

Following the usual Disney trend, the studio will insist that a much younger audience be targeted in the following 2 movies. Expect Zack Effron, Vannessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez and the Martin twins to be cast in a musicals taking place on the game grid. The films will be based around stories of young people shunned in real life only to find acceptance and true love in the digital world. Being even more groundbreaking, the character dialog would be close to 100% l33t speek.

Many ultra-cute comic relief critters such as the NEDM firewall kitty and living emoticons will be introduced opening merchandising opportunities.

Don't worry, anyone who is a fan of any of those actors/actresses cannot comprehend the awesome of NEDM.

Sub-Odeon Wroteisney must be very, very confident that LEGACY is going to do well at the box office. A trilogy? Those of us who saw the original TRON in 1982 could never have hoped for as much....

A trilogy as in Tron (1982), Tron Legacy (2010) and Tron: Revenge of the MCP (2013)

... and the tentative release date is July, 2038, right?

the CGI Clone Wars Series is very very good, IMO Reboot was and is excellent.

IF a Tron CGI animated series is something like Clone Wars and a little like Reboot(in-a-sense), with their solid to good storylines and great action scenes, and a touch of very light humor then it might be enjoyable by us some of us adult Tron fans as well.

Hopefull Lisberger will be involved enough to make sure the CGI animated series is not some throw away crap like the newest Transformers cartoon or the teen IronBoy wanna-be "Iron Man" cartoon whatever that thing is called.

Remember, hiring writers to pen a script only costs $50k-100k. Pocket change for Disney. Because, you know, if a movie doesn't do so well at the box office, you wouldn't want to make a sequel to it.

No offense (well, maybe a bit intended), but very few of you members understand the movie industry. The Tron Legacy sequel would never be direct-to-dvd, it'll either be A.) Released in theaters (granted the movie fares enough to warrant a sequel) or B.) It will never be made (granted the movie flops).

Besides, why would disney spend so much money on a direct-to-dvd release? It would be illogical to spend $250,000,000-$300,000,000 on something that will only be on shelves. Unless they drastically reduced the budget, but see above for my answers on that.

If/When this movie makes it's budget back in it's first week of release, then makes a really fair profit for the rest of the time it's out, we'll all look forward to Tron 3.

Also, what's with all your concerns about Kosinski not coming back? Or the ensemble cast? I completely agree with that, in fact, that's probably EXACTLY what disney was planning. I mean, they don't really have any more franchises to bank off of. After Pirates of the Caribbean ends, they'll need something new. That new "something" is Tron.
