This happens with big summer movie merchandise I.E. Iron Man. They may very well get shipped to the store weeks beforehand, but will not see the floor until xxxx date.

I noticed Toy Story 3 toys were out months before movie release date. So knowing disney they might do the same its good marketing on there end.

I've noticed more and more movie toys have lost the release dates and have started releasing the figures much earlier. I think it's to maximize their time on the shelves. A lot of stores seem to be putting toys on clearance very early if the movie does poorly at the box office.
