It's a scam in the sense that I don't believe him when he says he created a soundtrack for an abandoned attempt at a sequel.

He's trying to pass off his work as somehow being official or semi-official. He's just using Tron fandom and excitement as a way to draw attention to himself for personal gain, by pretending his work is legit. At least, that is my belief. I noticed the webpage states that he was commissioned in late 1998 to do the soundtrack and that early filming HAD ALREADY BEGUN (in late 1998, as I interpret it) and links to a ZDNet article in July of 1999. Well, in the linked article, it stated that work WOULDN'T BEGIN on the project until after Toy Story 2 was released on November 24, 1999. Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see anything in the article about early filming had ALREADY BEGUN. To me, that screws up the whole timeline and gives it an air of illegitimacy.

I listened to all the tracks, and personally, I like most of them. But I'm with DaveTRON, movie soundtrack-caliber tracks they aren't.

I find it strange that EVERY track is comprised of electronic music. Correct me if I'm wrong, but NONE of the tracks contain any orchestral or more traditional instrumental elements. I would think there would be at least SOME traditional instruments used, even in a TRON soundtrack.

I predict that even Daft Punk have probably infused some traditional instrumentation into their soundtrack. After all, part of the movie takes place in the real world.

But I think you might have crossed a line with some of the people here by portraying the website and music as something that they are not. I know you meant it as something fun and lighthearted, but like I said, you're dealing with TRON experts here (one of which I am DEFINITELY NOT), and I don't think they take too kindly to what was probably perceived as a "trivialization" of TRON. So of course, they were going to take you to task on it. You almost had me man, but the date thing was the smoking gun....LOL!
