Now that I have, let me go into further detail:
My intention is to create a sword out of a Jacob's ladder. The two key elements here are safety and portability.
I would prefer to have the long metal prongs exposed, but from the little research I've done it would seem that contact with the prongs would likely prove fatal, and my intention is not to hurt anyone (this is jsut a prop for a costume) My thoughts were that this could be easily remedied by adding a plexiglass shield around it, somewhat marring the effect, but making it safer.
The second factor, portability, is the one I'm most interested in. As mentioned earlier, the intent is a sword with a Jacob's Ladder as the blade. Ideally, I could conceal, say two D Cell Batteries or a a couple Nine-Volt Batteries in the hilt. Unfortunately, homebrew Jacob's Ladders tend to use neon-sign transformers or oil burn things
to up the voltage to the neccessary requirements.
And I thought, would it be possible to use a lower voltage/amperage so that if you touched it, all you might get is a slight shock? And then I thought again, Taser's, as far as I can understand, ar essentially miniature Jacob's Ladders (I could be wrong on this) So what if I were to implement the technology of a taser into the hilt, and voila! But this again conflicts with the safety factor. Once more, I'd much rather have exposed metal wires, but I will encase in plexiglass if necessary.
So here's what I need, broken down:
1) It needs to have a small power supply, preferrably something hidden in the hilt such as D-Cell betteries
2) I need a small device which can up the voltage to necessary requirements
3) Though not neccessary, I'd prefer it to be exposed without inflicting anything more than maybe a slight shock.
So Daddyo, I'll take you up on that offer. I unfortunately have very little electrical expertise, and no one to guide me. Any other help and feedback would be much appreciated!
