Anyone here going to watch this? It aired on BBC1 over here this week and I was glued to the telly each episode. Finally Torchwood lives up to the promise of the original concept of "Doctor Who for adults" by being dark and disturbing rather than just loads of shagging and swearing.
If you've never watched Torchwood before or watched it but got bored I strongly recommend you watch the new mini-series. Dark British sci-fi at its finest. If it doesn't win at least one BAFTA there's no justice. |

Yes I did and oh my god was it brilliant! I liked the fact that it didn't end in the same way DW does, with the happy ending and the joyful jumping back into the tardis. Although inevitably the world is saved, it's a very unhappy ending for most of the characters in Torchwood, especially for Jack. Might just be me, but it made the whole thing seem more realistic for me.
And you can't forget why this Torchwood was better than the other series, it was written by DW head writer/creater Russel T. Davies.

Yeah, I watched it and it was much, much better than the earlier two Torchwood series. Seems like the show's creator RTD wanted to go out with a bang, and that he did. Except, unlike what often happens with his scripts on Doctor Who . . . this time the ending didn't let me down.
As a whole it was some of the most dark and depressing TV I've ever watched, but that's what made it good. The show took itself completely seriously this time.

Haven't seen it yet. I will very soon.
I really enjoyed every episode of the new Doctor Who series with David Tennent and the previous guy (I forget the actors name lol), and I enjoy Torchwood as well. I will miss David Tennet as the Doctor..
Here's a scene, like many I could show, this shows that Doctor wasn't just all cheefulness and light-hearted romps:

Doctor Who has a dark and mature side, beyond just the humor and light hearted moments. Several episodes of the more recent DW series have won HUGO awards.
So I really don't see the series as being a "kids show" (as some perceive it to be), and to dismiss the mature and darker aspects of the series is kind of ridicuolous and unfortunate in my opinion.

That is a fantastic clip and i completely agree. I liked this series of torchwood because it managed to explore all of those darker moment in DW without the restraint that DW was put under. Really do wish david tennant carried on, as I really thought he conveyed the complex character really well, much better than Christopher Eccleston anyway.
