Not sure how many Thief fans are in the woodwork here, I only know of a couple... but I'm quite excited by this news:
We're in the early development stages for Thief 4, but this is an incredibly ambitious project and a very exciting one. It's too early for us to offer any specific game details, right now we are focused on recruiting the very best talent to join the core team at the studio and help us make, what we believe will be one of the most exciting games on the market." |

I felt Thief 1 was good, Thief 2 was great (I still play it every now and then and get easily addicted, Thief 3 was not very good. I think they learned some lessons with Thief 3 and will go back to the Thief 1/2 roots of the Thief series. I hope so anyways!abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

On the one hand, I'm pleased to hear confirmation that a Thief 4 is on the way. This has been rumored for at least a year now.
But, on the other hand, I have little faith in Eidos to make another Thief game that's good. They're probably going to make dumbed-down crap.
If you've been following the news about Deus Ex 3, it already seems like they've been making compromises to it in order to appeal to the masses. One of the designers on DX3 called the original "slow and boring", and that DX3 needs a lot more action . . . ugh. Talk about completely missing the point.

Yeah, that kind of mentality worries me. I saw a brief IGN Q&A from someone at Eidos Montreal and it got me a bit worried. But it seems they are very early, and they have a Thief 4 forum up already now and it seems as though they're asking the Thief long-timers what they want to see in a Thief 4. I think things can be shifted toward using Thief 1 and 2 as a model pretty easily if enough Thief fans speak up. where to buy abortion pill abortion types buy abortion pill online

Is that the same Interplay that made "Battle Chess"? I used to love that game on the Amiga!! As with several other games made on the Amiga, the Amiga version just seems the best. I tried a version or two of Battle Chess on the PC, and they just didn't seem as good. I've never played Descent.... scratch that -- I did once (just saw a YouTube video). It looks fun, but it's not the type of game I want to buy.
As for Thief 4 (you topic stealer ), I have a feeling everyone (including Eidos Montreal) learned a lot from Thief 3; a game that was lacking in many respects, imo. I don't really want anyone who worked on T3 working on T4 unless they learned big-time from their mistakes and vow not to make the same ones twice. I think a lot of the issues were a result of the game engine they chose for T3, but nothing can forgive the fact that loot glint was implemented in T3; there were no secret passageways or hidden switches; there were fog cloud "load zones" you went into to load the next section of the map; arrows had light trails; there were no rope arrows (but climbing gloves instead?? ugh); there was no swimming; the list goes on.
T3 failed in a lot of peoples' opinions and the negative fallout from that will hopefully better allow Eidos Montreal to get the series back on course. It should be easy for them to learn from Ion Storm's mistakes.
EDIT: PS, I wish ImageShack would stop deleting my animated GIF avatars!! Grr.

The latest rumors about Thief 4, say that they're still planning on changing the setting from the past to the present. That the game will no longer take place in medieval times, but in the modern day.
Honestly? By changing the setting to the present day, that takes away half the charm of the game already. It sounds like they want to make Thief 4 a cross between Mirror's Edge and Hitman.
I think our only real hope for a good Thief game is The Dark Mod. It's going to be a free mod for use with Doom 3. You can probably pick up Doom 3 really cheap these days, if you don't already have it. The mod team chose Doom 3 because of its moddability, and its lighting system still being superior to most other engines.
If you want to see some videos of The Dark Mod in action, you can see them here.

I really liked Thief 3, it was the second one I didn't care much for... which it was a really good game design but I just couldn't get deep into it like the first.
If they do a modern-day or future Thief, then I may not buy it. If they were going to do that then they should just call it something other than Thief...
Here is what I want to see in Thief IV..
We know that in the end of T3, Garret joined back up with the keepers. He catches a little girl trying to pick pocket him (hence a repeat of how he was recruited). With this, I would love to see a female character being trained and under the guidance of Garret. That would be great.
I'd like to see more mansions where you can sneak into and rob. I never cared for all the monsters or zombies. I would just love to rob humans in the game.
I also would love a story that centers more around the political powers of the city and how you can influence it. Perhaps the Hammerites got out of control again or something like a coo happens in the order of the Keepers. Maybe a political leader got wacked and you need to find out who did it..
but to be honest.. I want the same setting as before, same game mechanics (maybe with more improvements) but I don't want too much of a change.

I remember hearing those a couple years ago... that was the rumour and there was some concept art I think Ion Storm made showing a more 'present day' type of Garrett, and I think someone at Eidos had felt the whole medieval world had run its course. But Ion Storm is no longer, and I get a feeling Eidos is wanting to go back to the roots rather than do present day. Hopefully anyways.
But in seeing the new logo using the old font, and watching the current interviews, nothing is indicating it being 'present day'. They haven't shed a whole lot of light on it, but I don't think the latest rumors are the same ones from a couple years back anymore. I think they'll go with the old style.
The Dark Mod is promising and hope Thief fans build some very nice Thief-like levels with the toolset being provided. I've played a couple of the test levels released, and like them. Something seems off with the footstep sounds, and the AI and voices aren't where they need to be yet, but those things will come in due time.
