on Monday, October, 06, 2008 6:34 AM

I get to splash screen, where i click on Play, then i choose High/Medium/Low (doesn't matter it's always same). But game doesn't start, i have running lithtech.exe in processes, but game doesn't start. No error message nothing.

Does the game just give you a black screen or does it close and send you back to the desktop?

Try applying the Unofficial v1.042 patch, if you haven't already.

http://files.filefront.com/tron_update_v1x042cengexe/;7957226;/fileinfo.html
Tron 2.0 works in Vista. I know, because I've got it running in the 64-bit version, no less. Works just fine.

I did...
if you wanna know my Specs:
it's Intel Dual Core @1,47
1024 Ram (suicidal for Vista, but with workarounds it works good)
Intel X3100 (Yeh integrated nicely on motherboard)

From theese specs i think you know i'm on laptop

EDIT:
here's screenshot what it does after i click play.. nothing happens just this:

So you've installed the Unofficial patch? There's a difference between Official and Unofficial. Unofficial seems to work a little better in Vista. You can install the Unofficial patch over top of the Official one.

Do you have the latest video drivers for your laptop? I suspect the problem you're having, might have to do with your video drivers.

What version of Vista is it? Home Premium? 32-bit or 64-bit? Then you need to identify what chipset your laptop uses. Here's a link that shows how to do it in Vista.

http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/tutorial_identifyChipset_Vista.htm
Once you know what chipset you have, you can check to see if Intel has newer drivers than what you have installed on your laptop. It might help with the problem you're having.

http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-025753.htm
Actually, here's a page that's supposed to automatically check if your drivers need updating. It will make the process much easier.

http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/detect.htm
Another reason I can think that the game might be hanging like that, is because you don't have Administrator privileges when running the game and UAC might be kicking in. Though, it shouldn't really be necessary. Or, perhaps a firewall program is preventing the game from running, because it's asking your permission to allow it to run.

If worse comes to worst, try using 3D-Analyze and see if that allows the game to work. But it should definitely be a last resort.

http://files.filefront.com/3danalyzer+v234zip/;7661160;/fileinfo.html
And here are instructions on how to use 3D-Analyze.

http://www.ldso.net/tronfaq/pages/video.html

Hopefully, one of those will be a solution to the problem.

Hi,
Yes i'm using unofficial already
I'm using Win Vista Ultimate 32bit
Because i'm the only user on computer I have the admin rights, UAC is turned off, Avast and FW is turned off aswell.
Problem could be probably with DX 10. I"ll see if downgrade to DX 9.0c helps. I just downloaded lastest drivers for Graphics card. I'll see what it'll do next

You can install the latest DX9 in Vista, but it doesn't replace DX10. It just sits alongside it. I don't think that's what's causing the problem, though.

I think this might solve your problem. But if it doesn't, try 3D-Analyze and see if that works.

When i use Analyze, Tron says it couldn't launch Lithtech.exe that tron isn't installed propertly. New drivers did.... absolutely nothing

Maybe it's problem with direct input because it have problems detecting DirectInput hardware... Seems it prevented other games from launching

Did you download the version of 3D-Analyze that I linked to? It's important that you use v2.34, because the latest v2.36 doesn't work with Tron 2.0.

Also, did you select TRON.exe in 3D-Analyze? It needs to be TRON.exe, and not Lithtech.exe.

If you ran dxdiag.exe from the Vista search bar on the start menu, and it's giving you errors . . . that's not good. Maybe you do need to reinstall DirectX.

Do you have any external drives or devices connected to the laptop? USB flash memory key? External hard drive? When the game launches, the launcher searches all the drives on your computer. It might be getting "stuck" on an external device.

Seems it's direct input... even 3D analyze doesn't help
Only thing plugged in is Mouse... and integrated keyboard and touchpad

EDIT:

Well, it's starting to sound like this is the cause of your problem, now. Dxdiag should show information almost instantly. If it's taking hours, then something is definitely wrong.

One more tip I wanted to mention, even though I don't think it will help. You could try disabling the sound, and then run the game. A lot of the time (about 90% of the time, actually) problems in Tron 2.0 are sound related. If you click the Options button in the game launcher, and put an X in the Disable Sound box, you can check to see if it helps any.

But like I said, it's sounding now like there's some kind of problem with DirectX or your input device (mouse) drivers.

Wow. It's reacting exactly the same way it used to react on my old system which just barely met the minimum system requirements! I could never get past the point of choosing the detail level either.

You may need more memory! I see that your memory is already at 80% according to Task Manager. You could also stand to lose some of those processes!! I mean, 69 is a very large amount.

Here's an excellent page that will help you reduce the amount of processes running so you can free up some memory: http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/servicecfg.htm
I used it for XP Pro SP2, and after experimenting, I have 23-24 processes running at idle which took up 162MB after I restarted a couple minutes ago. In contrast, my mom has XP Pro SP2, and she usually has around 70 processes at idle. I don't know how much memory they all take up, but I know it's much more than 162MB!

I am confident that you could possibly reduce your own processes by as much as half.

On that note, the other possibility that I see is that Vista is not leaving enough video memory for Tron to run. But the X3100 doesn't have it's own memory. Here's what I found using a Google search on "Intel X3100":

Notebookreview.com Wrote:While it doesn't feature its own memory, it can address up to 384MB of system RAM for video memory, and it addresses the amount of RAM it uses dynamically to ensure maximum performance.

Source: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4154
So, reducing your processes as much as possible will free up some memory, and thus may allow you to play Tron 2.0 due to the shared memory of the X3100.

Now, I have never used Vista. Just XP and everything before it. If you're able to increase the Page File size in Vista like in XP, then I recommend doing that as well. I don't have enough expertise to know if this will increase your chances of success or not, but I feel it's worth a shot. You see, this sounds to me like it's just due to a lack of memory somewhere. But, I am not an expert by any measure.

I reduced used memory to 45%, but problem persists, I just wrote on Microsoft what the heck is with DirectInput, but as we know them, i can expect response next summer with words: It's none of our problem. Seems like i'll have to
A) Dual Boot

Doh. I was hoping that was it, too!

But hey, keep playing with the services. You may find your system runs a little faster. hehe Not only that, but some of the default services leave gaping security holes! For example, I disabled one called "Remote Registry".

At any rate, I sure hope that you're able to get into the game soon!

End of Line.

Aparently no game using Direct Input runs
That's what i call quarantining the problem
I tried install UT 2004, GTA 3 etc. none worked (all actually uses DX)

So VISTA users be aware if your game doesn't wanna run, check with DX diag, most probably you got M$tuffed with DIgg
(Direct Input game gloat)
