I watched the two-hour Ford commercial... er, the new Knight Rider TV movie on TV when that came out. We discussed it in another thread. I tried so hard to enjoy it. I tried so hard to actually like it. After seeing it, I think I was in denial over how much I really disliked it, although I did point out several things I was not happy about after watching it.

After a while, I realized that I really didn't like it all that much at all. I have no interest in seeing the TV series and I pray my wife doesn't take an interest in it. I saw a quick clip of it on TV (commercial) a week ago or so. Whatever it was that I saw looked like total crap to me. I mean, I'll buy futuristic technology like the magical morphing car in TV shows like Eureka because that's more tongue-in-cheek (the show is designed that way I think), but it sure doesn't work well in something called "Knight Rider" in my opinion. BTW - Eureka has gotten really blah this season, but that's beside the point.

I'll always love the original Knight Rider series and the very basic good vs. evil plots in every episode. The show worked well in that time period and still holds its own for guys my age today, I think (in more of a nostalgic-fun way).

The new series - call it "Knight Rider" or the "The Ford Company's Magical Morphing Car", it just doesn't work for me. Whatever made the original series work in the 80's is completely missing from the new series. Each decade has its spirit and feel in entertainment - it changes every several years. But whatever it is this time around is missing from the new series.

Nothing against people who are digging the show. I think that's great. I'm NOT knocking anyone who digs the show and I'm not trying to spoil what anyone finds entertaining about it. It's just not for me. I kind of wish they had left the franchise alone rather than turning it in to what it's become. Whatever the new series is - it just doesn't appeal to me at all.

I watched the first episode last night.

You know, the pilot movie wasn't totally bad. Just mediocre. Despite the fact that I didn't like it that much, I was still willing to give the show a chance.

But the first episode? Awful. Just BLOODY AWFUL.

If the pilot didn't kill my interest, the first episode certainly did. This isn't Transformers guys. It's bad enough you're ripping off Viper, but the transforming is just ridiculous. And why are they doing it? As a contrived way to force in a product placement for Ford trucks.

If it doesn't improve dramatically, FAST . . . I can see it going the way of Bionic Woman. Cancelled after a few episodes. In fact, Knight Rider reminds me now of exactly what was wrong with Bionic Woman. Over the top, cheesy CGI effects, more emphasis on action than story, and trying way too hard to be "hip" with today's audience.

Complete rubbish.

all of a sudden he's James Bond and they're doing a full-blown mission!? i was looking forward to more of an introduction to everything. oh well
