Fox News did a report about Mass Effect and it's sex scene, calling the report "SE"XBOX (ugh).

Geoff Keighley (or whatever his last name is) from Spike's video game shows and stuff, was even brought on as a counter-argument. Get this, they CUT HIM OFF.

Electronic Arts sent a letter to Fox News about the story, and here lies the answer to my question:

The resulting coverage was insulting to the men and women who spent years creating a game which is acclaimed by critics for its high creative standards. As video games continue to take audiences away from television, we expect to see more TV news stories warning parents about the corrupting influence of interactive entertainment. But this represents a new level of recklessness.

On a lighter note, is it just me, or are games getting both kiddier and more serious? Soon the casual gamer's games will be a thing of the past.

We'd be in real turmoil if we left them to report good news, and actually brainwash us. But I don't let that creep into my "fear of people" mental observations, just that there are ones who will make laws to "work" culture into the most scrutinized thing to speak of.. or whatever that means. The bigger question is why someone with post-traumatic stress disorder was playing a video game that could trigger flashbacks, and why he was not receiving effective treatment.

Video games are this generation's scapegoat for things we don't want to take responsibility for or confront. Previously it was rock-n-roll, previous to that it was jazz music, and previous to that it was demonic possession that could only be exorcised by putting someone to flame.

Hey, Fox News Media, metaphorically speaking, gamers are the definition of just the opposite of all that. By learning to exercise their mind it becomes more able to cope with unstable boring news shows like yours. So, yup I'll be tuning in, just like watching showtime, from what I hear, right?

We(gamers) can take journalism to a higher level since they have done these things, and can attribute their success to stopping the addiction that is gaming, and drugs, and those pure ones who haven't touched games and drugs will be a better journalist than them at their best. Maybe that's what their intentions are, to make us take up professional journalism.. I guess so.
