Hey... if anyone gets into C64 emulation, we should do a tournament like what me, todd, and MM did with Yars Revenge for high score... Had lots of fun competing...

Just let me know if anyone is interested...

http://arnold.c64.org/ is also a good C-64 resource. I love emulating the C-64, brings back good memories without those agonizing load times from the old 1541. Remember the "rattatattataataaaaa" noise that thing would make?

I was able to emulate the C-64 on my PSP there for a while before I upgraded firmwares (and then had my PSP phat stolen). That was pretty fun.

Hey.. thanks for the link.. I'll have to check it out..

These is this game I use to have and I can't remember the name (I think it was something like Token or something). Anyways, you were a guy in a small arcade who collected coins from machinges (popcorn machines, jukeboxes, etc..) Two little 'fresby headed' aliens are after you, but you can distract them by playing music (causing them to dance) or turning on the pop corn machine and the'll sit there and watch it... really cool game...

I just wished I could find it.... I hope that site has it..

Ahh, the good old C64. Quite a mighty little machine from back in the day. Bit for bit, kilobyte for kilobyte, the C64 did FAR more than any modern computer.

Mine never quite worked right, so I missed out on a lot. I never really discovered the true beauty of it until recent years while reading up about all it could do (or the ones that worked 100% anyway).

I've got WinVICE v1.15. That's the emulator I used to simulate the C64 screen for my Weed Killer 2 video intro sequence. I also used it to make my Lode Runner Custom Level Videos.

I've sat down with my C64 emulator and gotten lost in some of those old games - many of which I never even knew about when the C64 was my main computer back in the early 80's. Amazing things a skilled programmer could do with a C64.

Recently I made a tutorial about level editing in Lode Runner. Back in the early 80's, I used to play Lode Runner on my Apple //c, but the tutorial is based on the C64 version. I spent countless hours playing and making levels in that game back in the day. Probably the best platformer of that time... and still highly addictive today.

When I was doing Lode Runner level videos, I worked on a TRON level, but never followed through with it. I think I had two versions, both incomplete. I should get back to that some day.

It's called, "Spare Change"...

Cool - glad you were reunited with your old favorite game through the wonders of emulation.

There was this set of 3 games I had on my C64. They weren't great, but I played them a lot back then. I've poked around looking for a disc image of them, but haven't been able to find them.

The disc was by Symbol Software. The games on it were Space Mayhem, Mummies Tomb (or Mummy's Tomb?), and... uh... CRAP! I've forgotten the last one.

Again, not great games, but I've been wanting to hit them again for the nostalgia of it. Anyone know where I can find them, I'd appreciate a link.

Wow, I'd love to compete in a tournament like that with you guys. Actually, that sounds kinda like the Highscore tournaments they have on the Guitar Hero website. It's a tournament for a select number of songs in the PS3, 360, or Wii versions of Guitar Hero 3 or Guitar Hero Aerosmith, and you try to get the highest combined highscore for those three songs on the difficulty you signed up for. Once I was at 6th place on the leaderboards in the Expert division in a GHIII tournament.

Anyways......

Any idea if that emu will work on Windows 95? I've got a really old 95 computer that runs DOS (and Windows) based emus (except for ZSNES, I dunno why..) almost perfectly.

I spelled it wrong. It's "Cymbal Software".

I actually found the games just now, on a semi-English / Dutch (or German) site. Enough of it was in English for me to snag a few game ROMs while I was there.

Now to see if they actually work...

Ok... so.... anyone interested in a competition?

Let's find a game that we all can agree with... If anyone is new to C64 gaming and would like to join, then once we agree on a game, how about we give it a week for everyone to be up to speed and then we'll post screen shots of our high scores..

When we did "Yar's Revenge" for the 2600, it really wasn't that we were trying to out do anyone... but just really having a shared experience. It was really fun... I just would love to do it again..

Well, Kickman was on C64, right? If it's anything like the arcade version of the game, then I could probably get a pretty good score.

They've got stuff like this on the Guitar Hero community. They just added some feature (which I'm yet to try out) called challenges, where you can challenge another member to several songs in GHIII or GH:A and compete for the highest combined scores.

I'll have to take a look at it sometime. I have a real C64, but we've never hooked it up. lol. Anyone ever see the size of those Colecovision AC adaptors? lol. I don't know what just made me think of that. where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

Are there any other good C64 Emulators? IZarc is being stupid and not extracting the files correctly. Should I even bother trying this with Vista? Or should I just go put this on my Windows 95 computer?

If you are using WinZip..... (if not... get it) then you shouldn't have any issues...

From what I understand... you may want to try using VICE with Vista..

I think KICK would be a good game to start with... That or 'Spare Change' (sorry)... bias here.. If you want to try the game, follow this link..

ftp://arnold.c64.org/pub/games/s/Spare_Change.Broderbund.1811.zip
... if the link seems broken... let me know...

oh... and for vice... if you need the link again..
http://www.zimmers.net/anonftp/pub/cbm/crossplatform/emulators/VICE/WinVICE-2.0.zip
There are so many wonderful games for this... if You really need any help whatsoever... ask me... I'm sort of a C64 freak...

I suggest "Bruce Lee" as a simi first experience... Don't forget to 'swap the joystick' if you are playing with a controler (which I suggest).. just bring down the drop down menu since most of the games use 'player 2' as player 1...

The games I downloaded the other day did work. It took me a while to figure out they were PAL version ROM's rather than NTSC though. Mummy's Tomb is just as lame as I remember it. Only think I liked about that game is that it played "Light My Fire" by The Doors when you picked up a torch.

After figuring out the games were PAL version, I went back to try Rescue on Fractalus in PAL mode as well. I downloaded the ROM some time back but couldn't get it to work.

Yep, PAL mode did the trick!

Man, I SERIOUSLY wish I had this game for my C64 back in the day. It is exactly the kind of game I would have gotten lost in for hours on end. My friend had it for his Atari 800, but I only got to play it (watch him play mostly) a few times before he got bored of it. What an awesome game for 1984. It sported some pretty damn impressive 1st person game play about 10 years before most other games were offering a true 1st person perspective. It only played at about 7 or 8 frames a second, but that was decent, given the 64 KB of memory and 1MHz processor they had to work with.

I enjoyed almost an hour in this game the other night. If only I could go back and give my younger self the money to get this gem of a game. Lack of funds really put a damper on my younger gaming years. Many of my games were pirated back then. If I couldn't find a free copy or convince someone to buy me one for my birthday or Christmas... I simply never got to enjoy it. I used to mow lawns for money back then, but I had to mow a LOT of lawns to get just enough for one game, so I never got many. People weren't willing to pay much for a lawn mowing then - at least not in my neighborhood.

Oh, nice TR2N Lode Runner level, Qix77!

You know - I'd love to do another game score thing like we did with Yars' Revenge, but I don't have time for much these days. I might have better luck closer to winter because there'll be less yard work to deal with and I should (hopefully) be caught up with my home repairs/maintenance by then.
