I do not mean this as a slam. I want to discuss this seriously.
What I want to know is why people gets so focused on one platform or tool and immediately decide that everyone else is wrong for using a competitor.
I have used Firefox, I used to use Netscape, I have tried other variants, and I personally always come back to IE.
I have been told what a fool I am by numerous people because these other products are "so much better".
I don't agree, but I don't tell Firefox users they're fools for not using IE. I don't freaking care.
I do however wonder why they feel the need to make me feel bad for having the preference I have.
Why?
I used to run into this in the old days working at Disney Software. Mac software was not on our roster because the execs saw no money in it. The Mac market at the time was 4% of the PD market.
However, the Mac users who called to complain railed against DOS and Windows users because their system was superior, and how dare we ignore them. They were arrogant and rude. What makes normal people act that way over something as inconsequential as computer software?
Opinions? Let's keep it frieindly here folks, I really want to hear opinions, not software rants. Let's talk.

I agree with you DaveTRON, it's wrong to shun other people for their preferences... not just in terms of internet browsers, but everything.
every person has different tastes and requirements, and they find the product/solution that addresses all their needs.
I use firefox. i used to use netscape before that and internet explorer before that. I'm percectly happy with internet explorer [not so much the new one though], but given a choice, i just prefer to go with firefox. i'm not even sure why.. maybe it's the ability to customise it to a certain extent.
i don't go telling my IE-using friends that they should switch to firefox, they use IE, and that's their choice.
as for the mac/pc thing. i'm not going to get started, because i won't shut up. one of my friends is an avid mac user, and he won't stop bragging about his superiority...

Human nature. I am made felt inferior at work because I know one programming language and someone else knows another. Or their car gets better gas mileage than me. Or their shirts are better tailored than mine.
I think it all goes back to the days of the caveman and when those who had better hunting skills and thus better "stuff" usually got to breed. People still have that need to feel that their pereferences and thus "possessions" are superior to others.
One thing I do like better about Firefox is it auto spell checks stuff for me. Is there a way to do that in IE?

That's the whole basis of Mac culture, really; Mac users see themselves as the enlightened intellectual elite while Windows users are the unwashed masses. But it's all just extremely slick, effective marketing combined with exclusive hardware sales.
I know people who've bought an Apple PC at an Apple store on the advice of some lemming-like friends and relatives and the assurances of Apple store employees who bent over backwards to convince them that a Mac can run anything that they currently run on Windows, and run it better to boot.
Then they get the thing home and find that the Apple store employees sold them a bill of goods and that their friends and relatives, who were full of advice on what to buy, don't provide tech support.
So now that they've potentially spent thousands that they can't get back on a PC that either doesn't fully meet their needs, or has a huge learning curve, or is going to cost a lot more when the price of compatible software is factored in, or all of the above, do you think they're going to be truthful and tell other people that they're sorry they bought it? Ask yourself: Would I mind looking stupid to the tune of several thousand dollars?
With Firefox and other 'alternative' pieces of software, I don't understand what the big deal is. You still run it on Windows, right? How are you sticking it to MS if you've still bought a copy of Windows to run all of your anti-MS apps on?
Unless, of course, you go completely anti-establishment and install Linux of some flavor. But again, what's the advantage? So you save some hardware power. That's nice, but can I run all of my Windows and DOS games? No. Can I run all of my favorite Windows programs? No. Can I call tech support to for help? No. Then guess what? No sale.
On the security vulnerability front, various flavors of OS X are already getting a small taste of what it's like to be the center of the malware writers' attention as Windows has been. The more popular some piece of software is, the more lucrative a target it is for the malware writers. I don't care if it's OS X, or Linux, or Firefox, or whatever. If the number of users reaches an undefined critical mass then it's going to garner unwanted attention.
Personally, I'm happy with Windows XP SP3, and IE 7, and Outlook Express, and WMP 11. They do what I want and need them to do, period.
Now, as far as MP3 players go, I've got a 160GB iPod Classic - it's my second iPod - and frankly it's pretty nifty. If MS comes out with a Zune with more space, more features, and more advanced technology for a comperable price, I'd probably buy a Zune when the need arises. I did shop Zune but it just didn't stack up to the iPod.
I bought my wife an iPhone. Why? Because it kicks ass, that's why. BTW, the 3G iPhone is rumored to be announced on June 9th and on sale on June 27th, in case anyone is interested.
So do I hate all Apple products? Obviously not. I just don't have any use their computers. Do I hate Linux? No, but again, I have no use for it.
Of course, all of this is my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt.

It's the exact same thing for the OS as well it runs very similarly with internet browsers. besides the obvious windows Mac OS, linux/unix variant.s The web browsers in this case is just a tool in order to access html files over a larger network. For me I am using both firefox and IE at work and at home I still include Netscape version 9 at home on at least one machine. On my Linux and unix varients I am using just firefox. I don't really favour one over the other. they are all the same for me over here.

In response to the original post in this thread, I ditched IE about a year ago in favor of Firefox.
I still have to do some things in IE (mostly work related stuff), but I much prefer Firefox over IE. I still remember when I first installed Firefox. I just installed it, started using it, and never wanted to go back to IE.
The differences in (browsing) experience between the two are not night and day or anything, but I do prefer the whole Firefox package over IE.
One thing for certain - in my website redesign efforts, it has been a breeze to get things formatted properly in Firefox (aside from the fact that I'm not that good at web design). Every time I get my (currently unreleased) site looking good in Firefox and then look at it in IE, I have to go back and add a whole bunch of extra CSS crap to just make it look the same in IE. WTF?!!! So far, I have failed to get all elements of my new website looking correctly in IE. I'll have to settle for close in IE and just right in Firefox. Oh well. I've wasted several hours just trying to make work in in IE what works just fine in Firefox because Microsoft didn't want to adhere to the standards that the other guys did. They're getting better with that in the upcoming IE8, but still - WTFingF, Microsoft??!!!!
I don't look at IE enthusiasts as idiots or anything. To each his or her own, right? I've actually heard that some people prefer vanilla over chocolate. So what?

Well.. I agree with everyone here. I never gave anyone grief because they use something different than I do regardless what platform it is....
Hey.. I'm an AMD guy and the Intel folks don't like me because of it.. I'm an N'Vidia guy and the ATI folks don't like be because of it. The Atari ST folks don't like the fact that I've always stuck to the Amiga... so... to each their own I guess.
For me. I like Firefox because it serves my purpose. I love the Firefox culture (much the same way I really enjoyed Netscape back in the 90's). I think IE is a great browser. There might be a day that I'll have to go back to it... but I'm very happy with Firefox....
I like PC gaming over consoles... I don't attack anyone use plays console games, but I'm always attacked for being a PC exclusive gamer (why can't we all just get along? lol)...

I agree with you on this qixx. It is always going to be that way. Some people and not all of them There are the "thinning of the heard..." As they say that have always had their blinds on and think only one way. Where as us here in this discussion like what ever browser, OS, PC, Mac, Or what ever platform. Is there any one right answer for an over all question like this. I don't think so. I see it at work on a daily basis as a level one tech. I don't mind using any one of the three browsers to work with. On a individual there is only a preference to certain app or hardware and OS Because of XYZ features.

People like thinking their toy is the best one on the whole block, eventually forgetting that their toy is well... just a toy.
Apple has become the prime example I think of due to the rapid nature of some of the Mac community and how smug Apple comes across in ads like “Hi, I’m a Mac.” I’m sure it’s just them having fun in marketing, but it's become feeding material for that rabid belonging-through-branding mentality. I’m a Mac (work) and PC (home) user. If I had the dough I would love to have a Mac set up for graphics work, but a PC will work fine for me.
Have used firefox and it’s a nice browser. Don’t use it on my system.

Those who use firefox have access to thousands of plugins for nearly anything you can think of. That's the absolute truth about the matter. it took me a while to be convinced, I thought it was comparable until I was told what plugins to try out. Then I became one of them, enjoying to tell people what else I could find. it's a pissing contest, but most people learned how to hit the toilet, not the PC.
I don't bother being worried about childish behavior, as an adult, I can do it even better now. >:} It's all good fun if you aren't a brat at others for selfish reasons.
You may be suprised at what you find for plugins if you have the time to improve your browser.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Why are people yelling at me for bashing on IE when everyone here seems to openly hate Vista? I have used Vista, and I like it. I find it an equally desirable, if not more so, OS as XP. I should be able to have my pro-Firefox opinions, too.
I have nothing against IE in particular, I just like Firefox better. All it is is a cool graphic that I found, and I thought that I might share it with this community. I will certainly not be posting anything of this sort again, that's for sure.where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online
