Worth?

on Wednesday, April, 23, 2008 1:15 PM
If you had the money, and you wanted to buy a TRON collection like mine, what would you be willing to pay for it if you could get it in one shot?

Keep in mind that it contains the following and more (TRON film and 2.0):

TRON Arcade Machine
Discs of TRON Arcade Machine
Mercury Statue
Original TOMY Toys in Display Case
NECA Repros in Display Case
NECA Toys in boxes and on cards
RAH Cycles in boxes
Sark and TRON vinyl dolls from Japan
Kubrick Toys in Display cases (w/boxes)
TRON Towel
TRON Duvet Cover
TRON Pillowcases
TRON Cups
TRON Party Plates and Napkins
TRON Halloween Costume
TRON Shirts (over 20 types)
TRON Photographs/Slides/Negatives (1,000s of images)
TRON Pop Up Book (4 types)
TRON Novel (English, French, Hebrew)
TRON Posters (Around 40 of these)
TRON Hats (4)
TRON Handbags (2)
Magazines (Hundreds of these with all sorts of articles about TRON)
TRON Board Game
TRON Pins (30+)

There's lots of other stuff too. Believe it or not, I am actually considering selling it all.

TRON has been a great part of my life, but I have come to the realization that my collecting and archiving of this stuff is keeping me from achieving other things in my life right now. Very painful feeling by the way, but I need to build something that is mine, and that can never be TRON. It's been a blast, but I feel a pull away from it for now.

I haven't decided to do this just yet, I need to talk to Steven, Richard and Harrison to see if they want some of it or have other ideas for it.

I might offer it to a Sci-Fi museum I know of too.

I may also keep it and just store it for 20 years and amuse my grandkids with how big of a geek grandpa is.

I don't know.

Right now I just want to know what some of you would realistically be willing to pay for something like this if you could and wanted to. C'mon, toss me some numbers here folks.abortion pills online abortion pill online purchase cytotec abortion

Have you considered asking the Smithsonian if they wanted it? The Museum of American History could possibly have an interest.

I guess, although I'm not a collector I could hazard the $6000.00 area for these.

I personally would buy up the source(Tron 2.0) before I get these items. From my pov, it holds similar qualities. I hope you don't get rid of them, w/o a good home they won't last.order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill

Rough numbers, but last time I checked, an arcade game like TRON and Disk of TRON can fetch around $1,500 each. The Mercury statue, I'd estimate to be around $850-1000. Original TOMY'S worth, eh, $100 total. RAH Cycles in boxes 'round $100-120 Kubrick toys could easily fetch $150
Oh, and DaveTRON,
Promise me.
They will.
Get.
A good.
Home.
Or I will hunt you down and turn you into the MCP!
Joking asides, I would love to see items in a museum. For instance, the Mercury statue is a one-of-a-kind and, although I know there are people who'd probably take good care of it, I don't think it should be sold to a private collector.
Dave, I really, relly hope you've thought this through. This is a monumental decision if you ever feel like you have too much stuff, work your way up. Sell the less valuable stuuf until you reach things like the Arcade games and the Mercury statue. I suggest you keep those for yourself, or at lease think about it for a bit longer. The magazines, I suggest you seal and put in a box to reminisce with later.
It's a sad day when a collector parts with his collection. We're here for you Dave.
On a side note, I'd be willing to pay $20-30 each for the Kubrick sets A & B, unless you want to seel the WHOLE collection at once.
I'm really hoping you decide not to sell anything at all

Don't get me wrong, I am simply exploring the idea.

My wife, who dislikes TRON, but loves me and my frieinds from TRON, is trying to prevent me from doing this.

Best bet may be to simply put it away in storage for a long time until I get myself set in this new area of my life.

I can't help it, my cameras need my attention, and I am starting to make some traction with other creative people. I wanna be a photographer dang it!

So just consider these things ideas for now, and if I do decide to make the painful choice to actually part with them, I would expect them to find good homes with many of you before anyone else.

I appreciate your suggestions, and I'll keep you posted on my decision, but I need to do something soon.where to buy abortion pill http://blog.bitimpulse.com/template/default.aspx?abortion-types buy abortion pill online

Davetron Do you have an actual storgae locker of some sort that you are using like for home where it is offsite from the house itself. And can be stored there? Come to think of it. I have seen up here places like that where where it is essentially like a mini or normal garage that you can rent out and store stuff in it. Might be worth checking out if you are going that route and just keep a couple of this still within the home whiel the others are off site for the time being.

Not a bad idea. Put it in storage and give yourself time to think. In fact, if you ever got some (okay, a lot) of extra money. you could make a little building where you keep alll of your TRON stuff, like a mini-museum you can show your friends, family, etc.

Whoa

I hope in the end that you decide to stay with your extensive TRON collection. I can't think of a bigger TRON fan than you, to be honest. The collection is already right where it should be. Either that, or in a good museum, as was put out there.

This reminds me a little of my The Empire Strikes Back scene in my bedroom from the early 80's. When I started having girls to my house (parent's house), I quickly took it down. It was a really cool action scene recreation of the battle of Hoth made out of the toy play sets, AT-AT, snow speeders attacking it, figures, additional snow surface, background scenery (construction paper), etc. I had several other SW toys on display on the shelves above it too. My little scene wasn't highly unique as the toys were (and still are) a dime a dozen, but it's gone now. I still have many of the items in storage, but the scene is gone for good. It looked so frickin' cool. I never even got a picture of it. And I took it all down because of a new phase of my life - GIRLS! I felt it was time to let go of childhood stuff and just be a cool teen (or try to be cool, anyway). How I wish I kept it up and eventually packed it up with more care than I did (of course, had to move sooner or later).

Changes/phases in life come and go, or we move beyond them, or however you want to look at it. But your TRON collection is very unique. Phase be gone or not, I think you'll always be a big TRON fan. I will be. Think long and hard before removing your cherished collection.

At least if in the end, "it all has to go", I know you'll see to it that it ends up with a person, people, or organization that will take good care of it.

Thanks.

The Smithsonian Institution also has many affiliates all around the country, so it's conceivable that your collection could be on long term loan to a good home in your area. That way, you could visit it if you wanted to, and I'd guess that you'd have the option to either take it back or donate it outright.

However, if you do decide to sell it all then I think you shouldn't settle for anything less than $40,000.00 for the entire collection.

Wow, and yet somehow our favorite movie ended up failing (financially, that is)...

Nice collection, and I can understand why you'd want to sell it. However, when you think about it, you may end up with some pretty valuable merchandise if that new movie is a success!

You should probably put some of that in something like a self storage type place. But definitely not the arcade games. They can probably take quite a beating. abortion pills online http://www.kvicksundscupen.se/template/default.aspx?abortion-questions cytotec abortion

Can't add too much that hasn't already been said, except to say: if you sell part or all of your collection and change your mind later, it will probably be quite difficult to re-acquire some items. So you might end up regretting it later.

But if money/storage space is a concern right now, then obviously that's a priority and hobbies come later.

If you do have the space to store it and money isn't a concern at the moment, I'd store it away and stop collecting new items for now.

Failing that, donating to a museum would be an awesome thing to do. Knowing that these TRON items would be preserved and could be seen by the public, would be a great feeling.

I have no idea of the worth of your collection, but I'd imagine it would be somewhere in the tens of thousands for the whole thing, at least.

I don't know if the others will agree with me on this. Some items like what you have collected so far Davetron. You can't really put a money value on them. The time spent looking for them through ebay and the what nots and the hours spend working hard on the games themselves. I would probably say it is priceless for you. And would be a heartbreaker to see it leave. I know if I had to do that myself and had an extensive collections like yours. I could think of parting with it. But that is on a personal level.

Putting it all into storage is probably the best idea for now. Out of sight, out of mind, right? After you've established yourself and you have some perspective, then you can decide what to do.

I wish you good luck in your photography business endeavor, by the way.

There's some stuff you have that I don't, so I'd be more than willing to buy some of it from you.
