Yep. Made the decision this evening. I'll be going to FunSpot arcade the weekend of May 29th to compete in the Twin Galaxies tournament. I'll not be competing for the Tron world record even though I own the machine, but I have a few games I'll go for.
My question is... is anyone else going? I have the whacky idea to make Tron-Sector shirts for the trip. Maybe with FLYNN'S on the back an a small TS logo on the front. I'm willing to make a few extras if anyone from the site might be there. I just think *not* going to the world's largest arcade without a Flynn's shirt would somehow be wrong.

I believe that place was in "The King of Kong", a movie documentary about Billy Mitchell and Steve Weibe.

I wish I could go just for the heck of it; it looks like fun.
So anyway, I think the shirt idea is a great one. If you do it, I'd recommend using the 'Flynn's' shirts from Found Item Clothing as your starting point because that would save you the trouble of trying to duplicate the unique 'Flynn's' font, which is something I think they did a perfect job of. All you'd need to do is have someone add the TS logo to the front of the shirts and you'd be done.
A while back I bought both a black and a blue 'Flynn's' shirt (also a black 'Encom' shirt) from Found Item Clothing; not only is the 'Flynn's' logo awesome, but the American Apparel shirts they print on are very comfortable and fit very well. If you do happen to use their shirts as a starting point I'd definitely be interested in buying one.

FunSpot sounds like a really cool place to visit!
I just did a little reading up on the place. Wow - look at the size of that thing! Cut the chatter Red 2... what? Er, anyway - it's huge and FULL of arcade goodness!
I think the TRON-Sector shirts are a great idea - even if it's just you and the family. I might have to check that place out when I can get some time off work.
Do us a favor - take some video. Use your phone-cam, video feature in your digital cam, or video cam itself. Whatever you got to take video with - take some video and give us the grand tour of the place. That would be mighty cool of you!
Don't forget the obligatory video or photo of you playing TRON Arcade or Discs of TRON.

I *will* be taking video. There will be 3 of us going for a few world records, so we'll se how it goes. But yes there will be multimedia upon my return.
It will be interesting to see who will be there. I hung out with Donald Hayes (video gaming god) at Philly Classic 4 a few years back and he gave me some tips on Tron. I hope I'll at least be able to say hello to him there.

It really does look cool, especially considering the museum aspect, but at six hours drive time one way (assuming good traffic the entire trip), a day trip it's most definitely not.

Okay gang I'm in route (not quite half way there) via my lightcycle... er, car. I'll be taking some pics and video, but is there any specific requests while I'm there (punching Billy Mitchell, while fun, will not happen heh).
I'm going after Space Ace, Xybots and Quartet records. Wish me luck!

Hehe, funny you should mention that now, because I just watched King of Kong, lol.

I don't know about any specific requests, but I'm hoping you get lots of great photos and stuff on video to share with us.
Be sure to get at least one video clip of yourself addressing TRON-Sector with a greeting just before playing some TRON Arcade (including video of you playing). I think that would be mighty nifty.
Have a great time, kick some digital ass, and fight the good fight (for the Users, of course).
