Haaaaaaaaa!
Star Wars, 60's style-e!
Cool find, Sketch.
"Saul Bass", huh? He started that whole animated movie intro thing? Or at least that particular style of it. I can't remember which, but I know I've seen his work in the intro of some 60's movies I saw many years back.
There was a little of this kind of feel to No One Lives Forever 2's intro music sequence.

Saul Bass was a major graphic designer. He's famously known for his abstract animated movie titles.
I miss his AT&T Death Star. https://www.flickr.com/photos/blue_bezel/ |

I totally spaced-out and forgot to reply to this thread!!!
Very cool stuff! I guess we can see another influence of Pixar's (the intro and end credits of The Incredibles)!
Wow, his logos are major-league! I am familiar with just about every logo that appears in Sketch's post.
I've always appreciated a clean, uncluttered logo. For example, my favorite (relatively) recently reinvented logo is Cadillac's crest:
In my opinion, it's the ultimate expression of the Cadillac crest. The new crest balances clean lines and simplicity with just the right amount of color and complexity. Anything less complex would be too austere, anything more complex would be too ornate. I think it does a perfect job of expressing the "art & science" approach of Cadillac. That mid-1960s Imperial Eagle is very boss; fittingly, it covers the boss on the rear bumper in your first picture of the Imperial Eagle. I'm not completely sure, but I think the the Imperial Eagle is an example of American Modernism. God, I love American design!
Your post inspired me to do some googling; did you know that for about 20 years, between 1955 and 1975, Imperial was a seperate brand and make? Basically, Imperial was Chrysler's answer to Lincoln and Cadillac. I definitely didn't know that.
Did you know that the Green Hornet's car, Black Beauty, is a 1966 Imperial Crown? How about that the Batmobile was originally to be based on a 1959 Cadillac, not the 1955 Lincoln Futura?
Check this site out, it's got some great pictures and is chock full of information: Online Imperial Club "We are, after all, not God." - Cmdr. J. J. Adams "C is for cookie. That modernistic touch is what I love about that Eagle.
Yeah, 20 years as it's own entity. Says something about the cars eh? Another fact is they are famous for being banned from demolishion derbies. Something about being an "unfair advantage."
Imperial meant business during those years and they flaunted it. Check out this 1960 Vogue Magazine advertisment they did. Models poseing on the assembly lines. Classic! Those images really sum up the industry of that time.
Yep, Black Beauty is a Imperial, and a kick ass one at that. Love that car.
The Batmobile as a 59 Caddie... I just can't see it. It was a smart move to use the Futura. That was a great concept car design.
Imperial Club is a great resource. Tons of photos and information. Check out the Moble Directors Coupe. Basically a rolling office factory option. Oh, and check out the 1959 Chrysler Corporate Report. Great industrial read. Amazing stuff throughout the site. https://www.flickr.com/photos/blue_bezel/ |

I was blown away when I read that! Too sturdy for the demolition derby? Holy mackerel!

Yeah, just a little while before the unions struck and bargained themselves out of most of their jobs while gutting American manufacturing at the same time. It's a damn shame.

I'd love to see what the car was supposed to have looked like. I mean, who knows? Maybe it would've worked.
It just struck me: Only the best will do when a superhero is looking for a wicked ride! Imperial, Lincoln, or Cadillac? Decisions, decisions!

Yep. Specially the 1964-1966 models. Chrysler started using unibody framing on all it's cars in 1960 except on the Imperial line till 1967. Basically full perimeter framing and X cross members. They also utilized IBM computers for Electronic Engineering of the body frames.

That is so cool to find that Chrysler was using an early form of CAD back in the 1960s; in terms of using CAD, I wonder if they were the vanguard of the automotive industry?
