I'd already heard about the 3-D part . . . not sure what to think of that.
But 2011 now? Yikes. I hope that means they're taking extra time to make it good. But then again, this is Disney we're talking about.
So when will they do a greenlight announcement? This stops just short of confirming for sure that the sequel is a go.

3D is fine, and 2011 isn't that far away. Not in terms of movie development. However, in terms of technological and social trends, it's ages. As the film is likely to attempt to mirror modern technology and how it influences society overtly, this could become problematic.abortion pills online abortion questions cytotec abortion

We'll see Lurkinghorror. Tron came out in 1982 and it took time to develop. But was it outdated by the time it was released? Hardly. It took a long while before the average Joe moviewatcher related to things going on with it (internet; PCs; etc.). Unfortunately, that may be a bit of a "lesson learned" for Disney, where they'll be afraid to be that far ahead of present day technology, knowledge and mainstream thinking, for fear that most moviegoers won't relate (thus, not take interest in) the movie, and so won't venture forward very much. But we'll see.
Also, I have a feeling Disney will do something very interesting for 2011. Not only will they release a new Tron 2 movie, but I think they will re-release the old film Tron, but also in 3-D. Yes, I think they will figure out a way to "re-paint" the original movie (frame by frame, if they need to) to make it 3-D. It seems like this would be possible for at least the digital world parts, anyways. Computer technology has come a long way... it has got to be possible to turn 2-D into 3-D by advanced drawing (or computer aided drawing) techniques... especially with the relatively simplistic landscapes of .

I dig the 3D thing a lot. Personally, I wish pretty much entertainment would be available in 3D - ESPECIALLY games.
I think TRON will translate well in to 3D because of the nature of what TRON is. I'd love the opportunity to see the original film in 3D. It doesn't have to be popping out at me so I feel like a reco is going to smack me in the face - I just want to see the full world in all its 3D glory.
We live in 3D and experience life in 3D. To look in upon our fiction friends (or real events as in documentaries, etc.) in full 3D would bring things that much closer to our own reality, or so that's my take on it in a nutshell.
Got a little off subject there.
Ok, TRON in 3D works for me. TRON in 2011 is a bit further away than I was expecting, but it will have to do. I just hope they don't screw it up. This is Disney and we all know the angle they love to play these days. My main question is will they actually promote this new TRON film? My memory of the promotion of the original TRON was that it was promoted very poorly. I really didn't care for the TV spots I saw for it as a kid... and don't remember seeing them often. The advertisements for TRON didn't seem to embody the film much. They were weak, IMO. TRON 2.0 - we all know how well Disney DIDN'T promote that.
I'll try to stay positive about it for now. I tend to get overprotective when it comes to fictional characters and worlds that I know and love... and the potential for them to be pooped on by today's entertainment industry.

You may have felt the trailers were weak, but I love them now! I never saw them as a kid; or if I did, I don't remember. I like ENCOM511 computer one with the narrator's voice, etc. I just dig it.

Actually, I'd say it was. The first half of 1982 gave us the single, Pac-Man fever. Which, while a hit, gives a strong indication of how played out arcade pop-culture had become. The video game industry had yet to prove it's longevity, and the general populace was beginning to grow weary of the fad aspect. From a marketing perspective, Tron would have fared much better if it had been released when initially conceived.
It's even more difficult for material to remain socially relevant in this day and age. I assume the new film will focus on the modern world of technology rather overtly. There will be direct parallels to the internet and to online gaming and digital identity. The popular delivery methods of gaming and content are quite mercurial in today's society, and the general audience, now far more familiar with computer terminology than those of us back in 1982, will be considerably less forgiving over overt representation.order abortion pill abortion pill buy online where to buy abortion pill

You know, I kind of like the trailers now. Or at least I don't think so badly of them. I think that is in more of a nostalgic point of view though. There are many things that I dig a lot more now than I did back in the 80's.
My first introduction to TRON was during the TV special "Computers Are People Too". They showed some amazing new 3D computer animation that really just blew me away. I couldn't wait for TRON to hit the theaters after seeing that TV special. When the trailers for the film actually hit TV, they showed almost none of the amazing sequences they showed during Computers Are People Too. What I saw seemed dry and lackluster to me and didn't even come close to giving people a taste of the greatness that would be TRON. Again - these were my thoughts in the days leading up to my first viewing of the film in 1982. I remember thinking back then that if they had only showed some of the really cool computer animation, THEN people might have flocked to this movie. Instead, the commercial just had a straight-forward computer thing going on, as in there is a computer in this movie. Or so that's how it all seemed to me at the time.

I really hope that the story really keeps the theme of the original and TRON 2.0. This is what every TRON movie/game should have:
-Hacker/Programmer is unwillingly digitized into the world of the computer.
-Lots of irony
-Violence
-No moral
-Epic final battles
-Electronicly synthesised soundtrack
-Serious tone
-Something to do with corperate issues
If you watch and then play , you can see that these seem to be implemented into both of them. All of these seem to also be somewhat unusual for Disney to do, especially the lack of a moral. These are really the traits that got me into TRON and TRON 2.0; they just seemed so much cooler than something Disney would do.

TRON 2.0 (PC) name - TRON.dll
I'll play any mode, but I'm best at LC.
PSN - TRON-dll
XBOX Live/Games for Windows Live - TRONdll
-I have a Wii, DS, and 3DS. PM me to exchange friend codes. |

It was on-par with the times for the real world gimmicky things (arcades, pac-man fever, etc.) as you say, but I was referring more to the other part: the CG worlds, a sentient program remotely taking over other computer systems, programs having a real world counterpart, the computer programmer lingo, etc. Weird stuff to a lot of people at the time... or so I hear.

Of course I agree. In many ways Tron was (vastly) ahead of it's time. But that's why I specified "trends" in my initial post. Because in terms of what the public is interested in consuming, as in marketing properly to social trends, it fell just short enough that the general audience saw it as another attempt at jumping on the pop-culture bandwagon, thus missing the fact that the film had much more to offer. A sequel runs the same risk, if it takes overly long between the writing and the distribution stages.

Greetings, lowkey and welcome to TRON-Sector!
Who's to say which "gospel" Disney follows on this one. I think we all know that TRON wouldn't work well in a Little Mermaid kind of storytelling... at least not for anyone over 7 years old and an IQ over 25.
There are so many ways a new TRON film can get screwed up and piss off existing TRON fans. I just hope they do it right. I'm going to try and be optimistic about this until one I have reason not to.

If this is real, it could be immensely cool. Could be. I don't completely trust the movie industry. 20+ years is an awful long time to wait to make a sequel.

Just a word of hope. Apple's Steve Jobs is Disney's single largest share holder, owning 6.3% of the stock valued at the time of the acquisition at $4 Billion dollars.
If he has any influence over the direction they take, then this Tron should be the most stylish and awe inspiring film from the studio to date.
I wonder if they will take a dig at Bill Gates any deeper in this version than they did with Dillinger in the original.
Speaking of...a little note of history.
When TRON's original release came out in the theatres' Apple founder Steve Wozniak took the whole company out to see it.
He told me that himself, I felt twelve all over again.
