I'm trying to decide... 360 or PC?
I currenly have a Vist but I'm not sure how trustworthy it is. So all of you with experience, please leave posts concerning Prs/cons of 360/PC.
The main games I'm interested in are:
The Orange Box
BioShock
Mass Effect
Turning Point: Fall of Liberty (Out yet?)
Include information such as bugs, lag, load time, exclusitivety, graphics, controls, etc.
Thanks for helping me make the decision!

360 requires you to purchase Xbox Live service to buy a patch that could possibly kill your system. All 360 games are required to have some kind of Xbox Live functionality, which makes all games annoying if you don't buy Live. I have an original Xbox, and all of the nag screens for live are just so annoying! Plus, they're notorious for the Red Rings of Death.
Sorry for that little rant..
I have a Wii system, so I'm kind of a "fanboy" I guess.
Most 360 games have been released on PC or something cheaper, though. This generation really is crazy. where to buy abortion pill ordering abortion pills to be shipped to house buy abortion pill online

Well, I'm not going to get into a big list of the pros and cons of both platforms.
All I'll say is that I'm personally planning to stick with my PC. And my initial experience with Vista was bad during the first week or so (getting everything installed and working properly), but now it's running pretty smooth.
The Orange Box is much better on the PC. Even 360 (and PS3) owners will admit this, once they've tried both versions. The controls are better, the levels load faster, and the games are less glitchy. All the games run perfectly on my system with everything cranked to the max. And even older PCs can run these games well. Valve always makes sure their games aren't too demanding.
Both versions are good. Bioshock ran perfectly on my system, with everything cranked up full. The graphics are slightly better on the PC, if your system can handle it.
But based on the graphics chip you said you have during your Tron 2.0 troubleshooting, I would say Bioshock will not run well on your system.
Mass Effect is coming to the PC later this year, so it will be interesting to see how it compares to the 360 version at that time.

Not out yet.
TRON.dll made some good points, too.

XBox Live Silver is free and gives access to all required patches and downloads. You don't NEED to buy Live.

Buy a PC, but it has to be a good PC. A bad PC isn't worth the trouble.

TronFAQ pretty much laid it out game-wise. And as far as platform choice, if you can barely run TRON 2.0 then you're not going to be able to enjoy the recent crop of games on your PC.

IMO, PC- You can get a barebones kit, you can build a wish-list, compare current boards on manufacturers websites, then hunt for what you want, or need.
The Vcard for the 360 was comparable to the latest in 2005. 2x 7800 GT (SLI) now, compared to a PCIex 8600 GTOC for 90 bucks today.
Here's a bad example, although it may be a bit quicker than my current game rig in some areas:
Here
This doesn't have the best options, such as a heatsink, monitor, or even a good mobo, but installing everything is easy. it's just an example, I would price this out by quality, which is important..
This is overpriced, and that's the reason to look for a deal.
I like Xbox360, to be fair, I played COD4, and several other games, it looks awesome, but when I play PC, it is as surreal, but faster paced, more of a challenge to me personally, since I have more control using a kb/mouse.
They're both fun, I just use a PC way more, so it fits my preferences.
Everyone I ask would rather have any PC that plays current games, than an Xbox360.

If you play multiplayer, a membership is worth it, for me personally, don't use it very often, and get charged for it, or almost everything else I "want", so I'm not sure it's worth it, especially since I don't get the mini-games I want. From what I understand the list is full of misinformation. I dropped my paid Gold membership and switched to a Silver. I kept my gamertag and I kept my friends list. I can download paid and free content. I can do everything but play online. So why does the official list suggest otherwise?

Microsoft changed things for 360 owners. Live for older Xbox owners is more strict, they really do need Gold membership for many things. With the 360, MS loosened their policies a little and gave Silver members a few more perks than before.
However, while a number of things may eventually become free for download: some new content is at first restricted to paid Gold members only. Then weeks or months later, it becomes available to Silver members.
There was a bit of a stink over some additional content released for Bioshock. The update was significant, and restricted to Gold members initially. A lot of people got upset.

PC is the best, no question, especially once you mention any first person shooter -
But your budget will influence the outcome - PCs that can play recent games well are expensive and unless you have a recent PC, a decent upgrade can cost around $1000.
If you have at least an 8x AGP P4 machine (with around 3gig processer) or 16x PCI Express machine with similar, then the upgrade cost is about the same as a low-end console, and make it a more reasonable decision.
Something to think about - people consider 360 and PS3 as "Next Gen" but the new PC cards (such as the low-cost x3870 or 8800 series ) are a complete generation beyond the consoles.

i don't own a 360 yet, but i do have a vista PC, however, this is now severely out of date, and, being a student, i lack the budget for upgrading, buying a decent PC,or buyng a 360.
i have been deliberately refraining from buying the latest games, such as bioshock and crysis because i know i wouldn't be able to play them. i tried the bioshock demo, and 5 minutes in my computer crashed.
that said, i did get UT3 to run very well...on the absolute minimum settings, and with my computer fan screaming in pain.
anyway, if i did buy a 360, it'd have to be an elite system [aparrently, they're better suited against the red ring of death]
by the looks of it, the 360 is going to be my last change to play the orange box... and that depresses me a lot.

Take my advice and try to buy some of them anyway. It's better to have old games on hand for when you do have the PC to play them instead of having the PC and finding yourself scouring eBay and possibly paying exorbitant prices. I bought some games when I didn't have a PC but I wish I had bought more. Now I'm trying to find stuff I could've easily and relatively cheaply bought ten years ago. I used to be a heavy gamer in the early 90's when the Xt's came out way back when. Nowadays I don't really buy games unless it was something that I really wanted like Tron 2.0 for the XBox or for the PC. When I usually buy a computer these days its like the bare minimum that I need and its replacing a system that I have had for too long and it's more than 9 years old. Like my old Aptive from IBM that is running a AMD K6-2 450 socket 7 in it. It is still good to run windows 98 ME or even windows 2000 pro and family server on it with maxed out on 256 megs of ram which still does somewhat a good job for word processing. excel spreadsheets. Or its applications specific that I need to work with like Oracle 10g or 11i for example.

But since I know you hate Steam . . . I guess you're not going to give them a try. Heh.
|
i have tried it, that's the thing. i bought the orange box on steam, and after downloading and installing everything, I get this every single time, i trawled through every page of that thread, trying everything people suggested,
i did somehow manage to get portal to work, and i played and finished that as quickly as possible. but when it told me the files were corrupted, i just gave up...
then, in a wave of optimism, i bought the disc version of the orange box, in the hope that if i installed that, and created another steam account to link the key to, troubles would be solved. so i uninstalled everything steam-related on my computer, then install it again from disc. it installs steam, then steam doesn't connect to the internet and update, meaning i cannot continue the installation. now, for some reason, steam not only fails to run, it also fails to install properly as well. meaning at present, i am completely unable to play not only the orange box, but my original half life 2 as well.
so you see, it's not a matter of my computer being unable to play orange box due to specs. i *know* my computer can handle the source engine easily, it's just my completely shite experiences with valve and steam that hinder my fun.
yes, i hate steam, but as you can see, i have very, very good reasons to do so.
and that is why i pick 360 over PC, at least as far as the orange box is concerned...order abortion pill http://unclejohnsprojects.com/template/default.aspx?morning-after-pill-price where to buy abortion pill words of wisdom from...

It's primarily the ease of use factor that keeps me focused on console gaming. I simply do not have the time and energy to rework and rework my system for each new game. After the third instance of buying a game that is supposed to work on my system just to find that it doesn't work and (as it's opened) is no longer returnable and then spending an entire weekend driving back and forth to Fry's for electronic components that end up being defective and costing all my extra cash...
No doubt, PC gaming allows for stronger graphics. But for me, graphics have always been secondary to gameplay anyway. I think certain styles of games still function better on PC, and I still play all my old city builder type games on PC. But having spent decades seeking the balance between console and PC, I find that console gives me what I want, to just sit down and enjoy a game, with greater reliability.
