Dungeons and Dragons

on Saturday, February, 02, 2008 10:51 PM
Does anyone else on here play it? If so, I'd really like to learn how, but I'm really lacking in the information area.

I bought some D&D dice but thats about as far as I've gotten. I also have a players handbook-but it's from 1978. So it's a little outdated.

But anyway I'd like to play and am hoping for some info that would get me on my feet.

Thanks guys!

I use to play for a brief time in high school... The only thing that kept me from it was that the guys I knew that played wanted to do so on a Friday and Saturday night for almost 12 hours straight... and I was too interested in chasing girls back then.

However, it is a really cool game so don't believe the stereotypes that goes with it.

Regardless of which campaign you choose, someone has to be the DM. He is the guy that sort of controls the world around your character. He tells you what you see, he plays the NPCs, and usually tells you what type of monsters you'll be fighting. There are other things that apply but it's been a really long time and I forgot lots of stuff.

As a player, you have to keep you player information and stats up to date. You also have to make smart choices and always act in character.

The campaign I played a few times was a non-comerical D&D campaign, but one that my friend invented (yes, you can do that). It was really interesting and set in a more Celtic type of world.

... but like I said... It's been a very long time for me and I didn't play all that much.

They have starter kits for it. They run $25 and come with the essentials. I see them at comic shops, and local board game stores. I played D&D like crazy as a kid. It was fun.

Weren't there Dungeons & Dragons games for SNES, Turbo-Grafx, and Genesis? I'm probably thinking of a similarly titled game, though.

I remember an episode of Futurama were Fry doesn't get frozen, and therefore creates a rip in the space-time continuum (spelling?). So, he, Stephen Hawking, Al Gore, a chess computer and the creator of Dungeons and Dragons try to stop it from happening. They get sucked in, and they all agree to play Dungeons and Dragons for the rest of eternity.

I know there was at least one for the Genesis. I dunno about the SNES or NES, I think they got the Wizardry games.

For the PC, there's the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale games, not to mention Neverwinter Nights. If you want to get REALLY old school, you could hunt down the old Gold Box games.

I used to play D&D quite regularly before I moved to IL. Since I moved back to WI, I just play them on the PC.

eBay, Amazon, used book stores and garage sales are your friends. Also, you might want to check out the craigslist in your area, esp. if you live in or near a college town.

I love d20 dice...even tho I don't play pen & paper anymore, when I see a cool set I will usually buy them. They just look cool

D & D is still coming out in the form of books and games. The company that now owns them is called "Wizards Of The Coast" or something like that.

PSP just got a real time strategy AD&D game for it. So the franchise is still going strong.

Oh yeah, I used to play the Gold Box games on my C64, and then pen & paper AD&D in high school.

As a matter of fact, I even wrote a module once and also DM'd it for the group I played with; it was supposed to be silly and I used all of the creatures added to the Monstrous Compendium in an April issue of Dragon Magazine. Pink Dragons that breathed bubbles, gellatinous blobs you had to snarf to defeat, crazy stuff. Anyway, I'm sure it was lame but I had a ball with it.

Wow, I haven't played pen & paper AD&D in, what, 22 years or so? Yeesh.

Have fun!

Did you ever play any of the 'Ultima' computer games? The Pre-Ultima V games by any chance?

No, I didn't. Did they make them for the C64?

There are so many aspects I enjoy about playing D&D. I try to play as often as I can, but these days it's hard to get people together.

Lazor3001, the latest version of the rules is the 3.5 edition. It's also sometimes referred to as d20 as well (more on that later). There are 3 core rule books you need to play. Player's Hand Book (if you are not the DM, this will be the only one you need), Dungeon Master's Guide, and the Monster Manual.Once

Once you get a little familiar with how the game is played and some of the rules here are a few things I recommend.
www.d20srd.org - This website has become an indispensable reference, especially when you have a laptop with you when playing.
pcgen.sourceforge.net is a character sheet for your computer. Very handy, but a little awkward to get used to.

d20 refers to the game system in a generic term, and does not only mean dungeons and dragons. The game system can be adapted to any type of setting, sci-fi, modern day, super heroes, etc... etc.... the list goes on. One company made a supplement for a Tron like setting of life in the computer. http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/13/13079.phtml

----------------------------

There are a lot of D&D video games out there, and some of them are pretty fun. But they won't come close to the experience you'll have getting together with friends and playing. To me the social aspect of getting together is at least 75% of the fun.

Good luck with your adventures. Feel free to send me a private message if you have more questions about the game, or even rules and such.

Ahh, now I know what I meant by a videogame adaptation.

I was taking another lovely trip down good 'ol nostalgia lane, checkin' out my collection of Intellevision games. I suddenly stumbled across:

Advanced Dungeons and Dragons!

It was apparently a regular D&D set that came with a game cartridge for your (at the time) $400-something ! I should probably check that out..

Oh, and I think the Wii's Virtual Console has some D&D game on it.. IDK, never really was a big D&D fan. on line abortion pill misoprostol dose abortion medical abortion pill onlineorder abortion pill morning after pill price where to buy abortion pill

I've never played D&D... never really interested me. But I liked the old 80s cartoon of Dungeons and Dragons.

I'm getting out of here right now, and you guys are invited. -----^
