Hi. Just joined the forums, and i've been curious about what was done in the movie, if it could happen or whatever.
I love Tron, I recently bought the DVD, with the special features on it.
Anyway...
The whole MCP deal, taking programs over and shutting them down and all, I know it was all just fake and a movie, but could it be possible to program something, and then it just grows so big that it speaks, and starts screwing your PC up?
And i'm curious to know, if maybe there is a program or whatever, some form of AI that you could chat with on your PC and all? I think it'd be neat, talking to your computer :P
I know a couple years ago, there was a program that had a face and talked, but it was like $500+, some advanced speech program that you could chat with.

Greetings, Mr. MCP and welcome to TRON-Sector! 
Yeah - I'd love to be able to sit and chat with my computer too. It would be a lot of fun having an AI friend like that.  I'm sure that technology will be coming in the next 20 to 30 years, if not sooner. I doubt it would be as sinister as in TRON though. That's a common sci-fi theme - computers or robots turning against their creators. It makes for good sci-fi (as in the fiction end of it). I think the reality will be artificial beings that prove to be far more kind than the humans who designed it... unless someone sets out to create an evil AI. The possibilities are endless - just like the potential to use any technology for good or for evil, right?
I can't wait to have a real AI pal though.

I don't know if it would actually gain sentience or anything, but viruses are pretty much what you're describing right there. Malware basically causing havoc.

I can chat to my phone already. I tell it to call people and it asks me if that's really what I'd like to do, and hopes I have a pleasant day.

It would have to be profitable for any company to develop it and market it. The MCP interface was a neat concept, but why spend millions to basically reinvent the keyboard?
