Barcade

So... anyone here from the Boston area? I was reading in this month's Gameroom magazine about someplace in Boston called "Barcade", which serves up only MicroBrew beer with a bunch of old school only arcade games (including Tron!).

Man, how cool would that be? I'd be in there every day. Too bad Boston is on the other side of the country.

Actually, the Barcade concept appears to have originated in New York but is spreading across the country. Bars with beer and retro arcade games.

This site lists bars that are copying the Barcade idea:

Hrmm.. that website seems like it's a list for places like Dave & Busters and whatnot. This place I am talking about is *only* old school arcade machines (No Dance,Dance, Revolution!) and is kinda small and cozy serving up microbrews only.

We have a Gameworks here in town, but it's all new games, which frankly doesn't interest me at all.

I like DDR, but I agree. If they must have it, they should put it in a seperate, soundproof room.

I've been trying to talk the resort I work at into getting something like this for the game room. The kids would love it, and so would the parents....

Seriously...kids today need to know what they're missing out on! Games from then might not look the best (compared to now) but they were funn as hell!

Yeah . . . well like I said, the places listed on this site are imitating the concept. But whether they do a good job of it is a different story.

Unfortunately, it seems like no one has bothered to write a review of any of these places. Just list them.

Definately. There is a list on the net somewhere of where to find certain arcade games... but hasn't been updated in forever. One place they list for Tucson as having Tron hasn't been in business for 8+ years!!!

We should start a database here at the Tron-Sector of where to find Tron arcade games "in the wild" so to speak.

I feel the same way. It seems like all the really cool stuff isn't anywhere near where I am. I'm a lot closer to Boston than you, but it still isn't feasible to travel there for a drink and some TRON.

If they had one closer to here, I'd enjoy the place as often as I could... which probably wouldn't be too often, but I bet I'd find ways to make time.

hmmmmmmm...seems like i'm not old enough to be drinking, however there is a place near me that is selling a discs of tron system. 1500, or 15000, i dunno, but it's extremely expensive. Somebody may have bought it though. I don't know, was there a while ago and it was on sale. Hmmm, well im blathering on here. Please, continue with your talk...

I haven't seen one strictly devoted to older arcade games but I have been to one in Orlando called "Rocky's Replay" it's a pretty decent sized arcade and they serve beer there along with snacky food (fries, chicken fingers). Nearly every machine has a spot nearby to place the food/drink items and barstools you can use instead of standing at the machine.

Has anyone been to DisneyQuest in Orlando? They have a section there devoted to old school stand ups. Included among them is both Tron and Tron Deadly Discs.
And they're all on free play
