Cool videos, Sketch.
I grew up watching Lost in Space reruns on the weekends. It was a cool show and I loved pretty much anything with space ships and robots in them... and this had both!
I'm not a huge fan of the show, more of a casual fan. I thought the Jupiter 2 was really cool and loved when the robot did pretty much anything. My favorite episodes were probably when they were in space or traveling. I enjoyed the show more when the Jupiter 2 wasn't just sitting there. Dr. Smith used to get on my nerves, but that was the point of his character. Always plotting some self-serving plan, he was.
I loved the behind the scenes videos - the robot suiting up and space ship shots. I don't think I've ever seen the robot getting suited up before. And it's fun to watch how they did the special effects shots back then. It must have been really hard with the budget they had to work with, not to mention the most basic of FX tools and a tight schedule each week. I remember a lot of the visuals not always looking so convincing, but as a kid, they still looked really cool and I loved it.
I wasn't a big fan of the film. There were some cool elements in the film (like the rebuilt robot) and the "crush, kill, destroy" line really cracked me up. Aside from that, the film didn't do anything for me.
That was a really cool animation by Bill George. I love how he really stuck to the authentic look of the objects and yet gave things a more realistic look at the same time.
I think Lost in Space could make for a cool TV show again, IF they stuck to the original design, concept, etc. I mean, if they did kind of modern retro-show version of it with updated dialogue and more depth, but with the original ship and robot designs, etc. and with updated more realistic visuals. Of course, a show like this might only appeal to nerds like me and not find a mainstream audience.
