Yeah I was surprised too when I read it up. When I compare it to Ubuntu right now which is about 2-3 year support for their distros in comparison. Like Dapper Drake from Ubuntu which is only 3 years in the long term service.

Well I know I have the DVD distro of Solaris here and I have a ISO cd version of the smae thing on my gaming machine which I have to unpack as well and burn in of that so I have two copies of it. For any computer that is runing either a regular cd or a dvd rom on it. Right now. I am backing up my laptop and getting some blank paper and a pen soon to start loading it onto my laptop. Once I take a huge amount of notes for it and get it running. I'll make a report on that and send it to my prof and have it ready for anyone here who is looking to install it for the beginners at least. I know you already know how to install it as well as I do since it is like any other installation of linux/Unix with variations to installing it on the computer.

I wonder how well it work for a home user who wants to use sun solaris And if it is worth while. Things that make you go hmmmmm.

Yes, I noticed that on the Solaris site (you made me look).
No bad, not bad at all.

Four extra years compared to Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

I might even try it out myself, if I can spare some time

To compute or not to compute that is the question at hand. Tis nobler to compile in C++ or in TASM.

That could be very useful to others.
Good idea

If I can find some time this weekend I'll will install it too.
Curious how it differs from Linux (little I'm sure)

I don't know if you are a huge magazine fan. I used to buy a number of years ago like Maximum gaming or pc's thuey used to have one called maximum linux strictly taklk about the different distros of linux. Going from red hut to mandriva to what ever happened to be the flavour of the month. I remember reading in there about taking notes for something like this for linux. Since it was more text based installation than it was of todays more modern versio. There are stillsome that still do it. But more user freiendly like. I'll be doing that as well for Solaris. If you get a chance and want to see the report that I have done for my professor. Take a look at http://www.sais.org under linux there. I had made a sticky note there for him. And once I get the soplaris working and the notes. I'll post another one there for solaris.

I am intrigue as well how much of a difference if any there is with solaris. I know there will be some minor one. By how much I don't know.

Although I couldn't find your work on the site, Solaris didn't work (it failed to recognise my harrdisks). So no luck there

Ah sorry I gave the wrong link it's www.saids.org it would be under the linux distro section Ubuntu is already there as a sticky note there. Well I did a quick install last night of Solaris. I didn't have that much of a problem. It was different when I was installing it on my laptop. Some of the questions that were asked were not the typical from what I have seen on the other installation. Don't get me wrong Solaris might be for some people the good installation if they are used to using it more often than others linux like distros. (This being a pure Unix distro itself in comparison.) I'll have to muddle through online the set of instructions that they have on their web site. I think I may have missed something in general that made it slow on mine over here. But it was still functional.
