Seeing some of those psychedelic sequences now, it's easy to jump to the conclusion that "Puff" was just a metaphor for smoking pot. But you do have to keep in mind everything was kinda animated that way back then.

Yeah. That style was just what was popular around that time peroid. It has a nice dreamlike and fantasy feel to it that really looks great in raw animation form.

You can tell from what era and what format the old toons were from... It's great going back...
My personal all time fav. animation ever has to be Dragon's Lair (the game... but still) and almost anything Don Bluth and Gary Goldman put out during that time.
Another great piece of art was a WD film called something like, "The Black Cauldron". Wow... I'm going to have to see if I can find that somewhere...

That brings back memories!
Didn't have time to watch much, but just the first few minutes awoke my old memories of that magical show!
I used to watch it each year as a kid in the late 70's (think that was the time). I remember a lot about it, including the pirate that really just wanted to be a cook (or was it chef?).
Loved that cartoon!

The animated Lord Of The Rings was Bakshi. I think the Hobbit cartoons (Hobbit, Return Of The King) was Rankin And Bass.
